Just finished a restoration on a 1956 C-172. The dataplate that was on it is almost unreadable and I would like to have someone recreate a new one for me. Does anyone have a dataplate that is readable so I can fill in blanks. Here is a picture of mine

Interesting question. I have no idea what the rules are for re-creating a data plate. As a later buyer I would be suspicious of a plane with an aftermarket data plate. But maybe I’m just overthinking?

I am not sure either. My IA didn't think it would be an issue since it is not the airframe dataplate. This dataplate the best I can tell shows when the conversion was done. It came from AVCON as a blank plate and you are supposed to stamp it. When the conversion was done, no one stamped the plate.

Take it to a trophy shop. They can make you one that’s legible and fill in the blanks, too. That’s what I did when I built my Cobra replica. I even managed to get ODOT to accept it! I don’t see it as being a big deal having a new plate. It’s got to be better than having an old plate that’s nearly illegible and has no useful information on it.

I have already got the plate mostly created. I can't read the bottom line so I was hoping someone had a legible plate to make sure I have all of the information on it

I'll take a picture of mine next time I'm at the airport. Might be a few days.

These guys make data plates. I think there's some government approval needed. I'd check the FSDO, might be rules for surrendering the old plate.
