Seems like they got the formula down early: tricycle gear, rear engine(s), large cargo compartment with plenty of headroom ... so is the gear inspection mandatory on that one too?

Sorru Antoni, it's actually a 4 wheel base.

I've driven one or two of those, and their vespa a lot. Fun!

Many of those Chinese operated aircraft sit on the ground. They hook up a cart and do business in the ground on the plane. It happens with other airframes as well, not just Piaggio. There are some low time Gulfstreams. The APU will have more time than both engines combined!

The irony is that pilots sit up front twiddling thumbs and looking busy. ...the planes never move. Business finishes and they shut down and park the plane after the PAX leave. Rarely are they approved to move or fly.

Why why why?

Does anyone here have any idea how difficult it would be to import and N register one of these?

This is a good article, from a little while back, that highlights the likely reasons:
https://www.flyingmag.com/general-aviation-in-china

It echoes a lot of what I have heard from US schools and instructors that have students from China and what one of the pilots I used to fly with regularly told us when he flew in China and Hong Kong.

I wonder if eavesdropping might play a roll in these “flights”. Even a small APU probably creates enough noise to disrupt most attempts at listening in.

We have a winner. I've been out of business for about 6 years now, but we long had a policy on never discussing anything of substance in hotels, restaurants and cars when in China. Whole country was a giant eavesdropping machine and I can only assume it has gotten worse/"better" since then. If you wanted to talk, you went for a walk and just dealt with the horrible air.
