Flight-critical data including airspeed, altitude and navigation could disappear and “result in loss of airplane control at an altitude insufficient for recovery,” the FAA said in its 2014 safety bulletin, known as an airworthiness directive.

Looks like another nonsense, sensationalist article from Bloomberg.

They have a history of publishing this kind of garbage. Like the supposed story about "secret Chinese spy chips" supposedly implanted in SuperMicro servers during manufacture. To date, absolute 0 such chips have turned up, everyone they quoted as a source in the story has denied it.

Just another load of BS from Bloomberg.

I am surprised that Bloomberg didn't pick up something more recent. Was there an Airworthiness Directive to resolve the issues from the "work" that Chris Roberts or Ruben Santamarta did? Chris, if you recall, was the guy that allegedly hacked into the flight systems of the United aircraft and had a long date with the FBI. Ruben wasn't arrested but provided documentation related to hacking through the SATCOM infrastructure.

Their research and the DHS research that Robert Hickey did was as scary as it was intriguing. However, there doesn't seem to be any finality related to the work those three did to improve airliner safety. Then again, it may be security through obscurity and the FAA may have worked with the manufacturers versus issuing an AD that would provide bad actors information on how to break the system.

Chris was on a blog a year and a half later but there was no feedback regarding the issue being fixed but provided more insight.
