I still have yet to break 6 hours in my Mooney. To date my longest flight was KHYI (San Marcos, TX) to KTDF (Person Co, NC) 1024 nautical miles, 5 hours 10 min, 52 gal used.

6.2 hobbs. flight time was around 6:10. it was a LOP takeoff and everyting. Kissimee FL to houston, AXH. 6.4 hobbs, 5.9 tach, and 43.8 GAL burn. Average 2-5KT headwind. That coastline routing was ~810nm. slower speed, due to the desire to skip a fuel stop. Its only a 54 gallon airplane.

7gph average including takeoff is pretty insane

Back in 2012 we took a family vacation in Texas (Horseshoe Bay, a bit NW of Austin) in April (if memory serves).

Anyway, I flew non-stop (IFR west bound departure required due to weather) from Camarillo, CA to San Angelo, TX.

The route flown was roughly 1,000 miles. I’ve got data on it somewhere. Stock 80 gallon tanks.

I tried to get to Horseshoe Bay non-stop but the winds aloft weren’t helping at all and once in Texas ATC advised that there was a “rocket launch” area at my 12 o’clock. That was back before I had Garmin Pilot and the iPad so out of an abundance of caution I diverted to San Angelo.

Anyway, I followed Bill Compton’s guidance on maximum range flying. Upon landing at San Angelo I needed 67 gallons to refuel (ran the right tank dry) so I had 13 left all in the left tank and Texas was VFR (severe clear).

If you’re willing to slow down these aircraft can go a very long distance even on stock fuel tanks.

Amazing what Mr. Bill Harrelson accomplished.

There are two things I can’t figure out how you pull off in 32 hours in a Lancair. #1 is sleep. #2 is #2.

Because you’ve never put your mind to either task.

People that do...do. The rest don’t.

Just did my longest nonstop Monday in the K35 - DFW Grand Prairie (GPM) to CLT Concord (JQF), smooth flight mostly, 829nm direct. 873nm actual. 4:33 flight time. Flew at 13k w/ O2 and a new wrist/finger oximeter. Climb rate was excellent to 13k with the ElectroAir EIS timing advance still heating cylinders above 8k, but I kept them under control and the power was there all the way up. Had a nice tailwind with cruise GS between 200-211kts. High point was initial descent where I nosed it into 300fpm and watched GS go to 228. Fuel planner indicated I still had 450nm range left at that point, and I was about 80nm from CLT. TAS was 155 kts at 9.8 GPH at 13k, 18" and 2400rpm. Side note: First time I've been able to really see how well my totalizer is dialed in. It showed 48.8 used at shutdown. My invoice for fuel was 48.9 gallons.

I just flew from KRHV (San Jose) to KCCR, picked up a passenger at CCR and then flew direct to KGUP (Gallup NM.) All on one tank (60 gallon tank) and took 41 to fill up. Total distance was about 720 miles. KCCR to KGUP (695 Kmiles) was 4 hours and 4 minutes. This was in my '76 Cessna 177RG.

KFZY to KSAV - just over 4 hours and around 720 miles in the TravelAir after Harborfest. I did that twice.

KVRB KPWM - Not direct - landed at KORF and KBDL - Flew a new Archer with less than 10 hours on the Hobbs with a friend. It was almost 1200 miles and 11.6 hours of flying. The flight directly over JFK at night descending from 9000 to 7000 was absolutely amazing.
