It needs to be repriced for a faster sale. ;)

Truth is, a lot of planes on the market have ZERO value. Not one cent, unless it's for scrap or salvage.

Typical plane that has been sitting on the ramp for 10 years. Engine(s) worth zero. Prop(s) worth zero. Radios worth zero. Airframe ... might be a reason to get it for parts.

So, a plane that's listed for ... say ... $45,000, might have market value of $5,000. It will sit until the airport has it condemned and hauled to the dump.

Yep...unfortunately I have to agree.

You bloody nailed it, Tom. Why people don't let planes go to an excited new owner for what they're REALLY worth (the highest someone is willing to pay), instead of letting them rot into their tiedown ~ becoming no good to anyone ~ is a conundrum that's baffled me for decades. ~ME

If i was in the US I might have already bought this. Great plane for knocking around and to teach a kid to fly.

Several good answers to your ? About inexpensive airplanes.

Warning...topic drift.
But remember...with the right partners...$20k will buy a 1/4 share of a 33/35 bonanza.

Just remember ... If you can spend $20,000, start looking at planes listed at $25,000. You should be able to get them for 20K.

This...but it's been going on since the price of aircraft collapsed in 2008-9. Many airplanes are in a padlocked hangar waiting for the market to recover, so I imagine the problem is larger than it seems. The aircraft in hangars might be in better mechanical shape, though.

Best,
Rich

And then spend another 5-10k getting everything fixed after you buy. :peace:

I know this is conventional wisdom but how true is it really? Browsing Barnstormers and seeing planes listed at 15k or so I definitely see it, but some of the ~25k listings look quite clean, which is consistent with that being the upper end of the market for some of these models.

Just bought a project E55 Baron for 21,500. But i'll have upwards of 50k to put into it before I get it how I want. Engines had 3&6 hours since top overhaul but have sat 7 years, surprisingly clean since it was hangared and not sitting out getting weathered.

I understand lack of a hangar would certainly beat one.

There are lots and lots of fabric covered planes living out in the elements, even in the frozen north. They require more care and the right paint, but they handle it pretty well.

It’s nice to have a hangar, but it’s far from a necessity.
