For the cessnas it looks like a nice clean install. They are using the mounting points in the airframe where you pick the airplane up. We install eyeloops to pick the airplane up for float install and removal.

Interesting. Glad that those are strong lifting points.

I used to be in the construction equipment manufacturing business and whenever I look at an airplane, nothing looks like a strong attachment point to me. Of course, if I built an airplane, it would be too heavy to fly.

They have been "working" on the 206 for over 10 years. I would have a 206 right now if it was approved.

Correct
I’ve given up any hope of it happening. I think it’s marketing bs.

That’s funny, when I spoke to BRS the 206 parachute sounded like it was close. I would have never guessed they were saying the same thing for (10) years. That is too bad.

You would think the FAA would fast track a safety add on...I am sure that government BS or FAA testing is the hold up.

The parachute design itself has to be very similar to the 182.

I am curious. Does repack and rocket motor have 10 year limits like the cirrus? If so what are estimated costs for this work?

Donny:

I spoke to BRS about this a while ago, so I don’t recall the exact cost. It was roughly the same as the Cirrus. The timeframe to repack is the same.

Why?

A better "why" - someone put a BRS into a Petersen Katmai STOL 182. With the canard it lands about 35 mph in a few hundred feet. Almost have to break a strut to really need it in a Katmai.

RAS

My hangar mate has a Peterson with a 'chute. Nice, clean install. It eats a bit of baggage space but as it's always just him with his wife aboard, they have plenty of room.

He did some of the legal work with BRS and liked what he saw.

His reasoning was sound: The soul comfort it gave him and his wife on the flights they planned with the plane was worth the price. He's aware that when CHTF none of us are at our best, and wanted another option.

I don't have one and wouldn't install one in my 182, but I cannot and will not throw stones at him for making the decision.

Agreed. I ask why too. Have you ever taken a 172/182 and stalled it and held it in the stall? Do it, you'll notice that the loss of altitude in fpm is less than most 172's endure from poor landings by students and instructors.

I'm an advocate for the concept of the chute, but it's not the be all end all for every type. in 172/182 one can mush the thing in and probably fly it again. I also understand the motivation with your partner mandating a chute. Good luck with it. Hopefully you never have to use it!

Yes, rocket carries the chute through the rear window. There is some plexiglas between the chute box and window that keeps everything enclosed and the rear seat passengers protected when the rocket goes off.

Old thread but do you know of any air conditioning options if you install BRS in any Cessna 182 models?
