I bought a set of Knots2u wheel fenders for $2380 for my Cessna 180. The mounting brackets, not included, are $3200 new. you are going to have to know what they fit and what accessories will be required for installation. Jg

They are white, gel coated, I believe and are in beautiful shape. How do I find the model they will fit and how much would a pristine set of main wheel pants be worth? Keith, The more I think about this, the more confused I get. Wheel pants are wheel pants, designed to fit a particular size of tire. The only variable is the way they have to mount up considering the gear strut and brake arrangement. Del Lehman actually had to move my calipers from back to front to make the ones for my 180 fit. The correct mounting plate is the key as I understand it. Those pants/fenders will probably fit any Cessna as long as the tires are not too big. I have rebuilt and refitted fenders on both of the Decathlons I owned. At the time, the fenders were about $500 a pair but fragile as hell. I rebuilt them both with an epoxy resin liner and strengthened the mounting locations. The only limitation I can see would be the opening for the wheels/tires. Jg

The angle needs to be right. 180s are 12 deg different from 172s, 182s. I am guessing the locations of the mounting nutplates on the mounting plate determine the angle. But, the nutplate pattern also needs to match the hole pattern on the wheel pant.

Jeff,
True, but with epoxy resin, cloth and thin metal reinforcement, you can put the nut plates anywhere. I have worked extensively with West System epoxies over the years with boats. They make different additives for different applications. I once, as an experiment, embedded a 3/8" bolt in a 2 oz cup of resin with additives. The next day, I set it on a concrete floor and hit it with a 10# sledge hammer. The head of the bolt flattened and a piece broke out of the concrete, but the shaft of the bolt never moved in the dollop of resin.
Trust me, inserting nut plates where needed is no challenge.

Let us know what you figure out, John. I have early style 172/182 (pointy) wheelpants, but I had to custom make the wheel pant brackets to correct for the 12 deg. I recently scored a set of the factory 1980s 180/185 brackets, but the nut plates are in different locations. I would like to re-use the same wheel pants, so those holes need to match. Note that there is also a metal doubler inside the wheel pant.

Keith, I am just sharing my experience and knowledge of the capability of the resins and how I have used them with wheel pants before. I have no need for anymore wheel pants. My point is that if you have the correct metal mounting brackets for the airplane, modifying the wheel pants to fit is not an issue. I would suggest you post them with pictures and exact dimensions. Take a shot with them sitting on top of the Cessna tires to give a perspective for the buyer. You asked: My opinion of their value is $500 for the pair. Jg
