Geared engine and training wheels on 175. My first plane 50 odd years ago.

Might be some cooling issues. I knew another conversion that did.
Some difficulty filling the gas tanks all the way. Second hand info from a guy I trust. They were designed to fill while level, not with the tail on the ground.
Better range than a 170. Bigger tanks.
Haven’t heard about any tail wheel troubles, but that fuselage wasn’t designed for dragging. Worth a very critical look.
Would you ever want to put it on floats? How would that work? Make sure there’s a compatible STC. The gear aren’t where they need to be for 175 eligible floats, and it’s not a 170, so that STC is no good. Where does that leave you?
Doesn’t have that beautiful curvaceous 170 tail, but does have a very macho looking tail to make it look like a Skywagon.
Worth considering.

I had a ‘58 175 as my first airplane. Flew it from Memphis all over, including Oshkosh, Denver, etc. I loved it. It wasn’t much to look at, as the paint was all faded and the interior was a hodgepodge from various planes. It had the G-O-300 engine, which did not give us any problems. The handlebar controlled flaps were really nice as well. I think the geared engine has scared a lot of buyers away, driving the price down. This can make it a good value, depending on the specific plane

Joe, You aren't that far away. Come visit. We've almost always have at least one each of the Cessna tail wheel models in the shop. I don't have a 175 at the moment, which is unusual. It's easy to compare the differences and changes over the years when you can just take a few steps and have time to study. I do have a 170B with the Continental IO-360 (these are not for sale......mostly plane porn) Attachment: one seventy1.jpg Attachment: one seventy2.jpg Attachment: one seventy3.jpg

I sold my 185 a while back when i got the barron, still have the j-3 but got the itch for another taildragger, 180-185 prices have gone crazy, thought this might be a cheaper version of the 180, i would go with bigger tires
