From the bottom of https://www.surfair.com/us/about-surfair/

Surf Air does not own or operate any aircraft. Surf Air arranges travel and other services solely as a manager of the Surf Air membership program and as an agent of its membership. All flights arranged by Surf Air for its members are performed by independent, third party FAA-licensed and DOT-registered air carriers.

They use to lease or own PC-12's in their California operations. They sold that maybe a year or two ago and went solely to 3rd party operators.

Fundamentally they lose less money when they let other companies get stuck holding the bill. Pretty common business strategy.

What assets do they have if they do not own aircraft? One of you smartalecks will say - Other people’s money.

Paying subscribers is a significant asset.

What assets a real estate broker or insurance agent have, besides a desk and a phone? Yet, some of them are doing pretty well.

My Realtor owns property, multiple properties with some being corporate furnished condos, but they don’t handle the trust account or hold money for a future purchase.

The card companies usually drive a good deal. Avantair treated us well but we had not renewed when the maintenance issues started or started selling planes to leadership to “leaseback”

Good luck to Surf Air

I think they went tango uniform... there are still some booths around, but they aren't staffed. I never hear them on the radio anymore and don't see them at the typical FBO's they used to hit (Tahoe, Santa Barbara, etc). BoutiqueAir seems to have filled that niche, and seem to be doing it profitably the old fashioned way... by selling you a ticket per flight.

Yes, they are still around.

They own (well, lease) a bunch of planes, that are operated under the 135 certificate of a few companies.

In California, they are in midst of a legal battle - Encompass Aviation holds a bunch of their planes, and won't release them due to unpaid bills. They use Advance Air to fly their flights. Advance has a few Surf Air PC12's now.
In Texas, their flights are mostly operated by Tradewind Aviation. We have 2 Surf planes and we are providing one of our own, so in total we have 3 planes in Texas.

You won't hear their callsigns, because the flights are operated by third parties. In Texas if you hear a Goodspeed, it's one of us.

Um, not all...

It's too bad; I really wanted them to do well.

Seemed to be a silly concept. This only works with gym memberships and Amazon prime.

See quite a few of the King Airs At KPBI on a pretty frequent schedule.

Founders have an idea. VC invested. VC bounced the founders. Brought “senior leadership” in. Trouble sets in. Senior leadership doesn’t have the fire...they are tired. VC has no more cards to play. Vision is lost. Company craters. VC’s move on. Standard.
