When I picked it up it showed signs of former glory, but definitely needed some love. The gains so far have been outstanding. I may do a high-alt test flight tomorrow to see what we get.
The previous owner had 3 small children that absolutely wrecked the interior. Eventually the kids got older and he upgraded to a PC12, and this thing sat on the back burner. I remember going out to the airport just to fly it every 3-5 months! He always had an open checkbook when it came to the annual. As you can see in the logbooks Drew over at Romanair has done a ton of work to it. I really miss that airplane and was on the fence of having our company buy it over the cirrus.

Nah...I buy to fly! I’ve already put 70 hours on the Toga. Been to Mexico and cross-country three times. I do love the project though. I also love learning about the jewels of each type. My current trip statistics page is within 3 kts of my 58 Baron and all of my flying has been down low including many test flights.
How cool to get Baron performance, better high-alt capability, nose and aft baggage, a much larger cabin—-all on 18gph? ....from a Piper!
I can get this bird up and down in 1,000’ at gross. Can’t do that in a Bonanza.
Each type has their pros and cons and I love learning how to squeeze the most out of them. Once complete and perfect I lose interest...

While I don’t know Jim’s motivations, I can share mine.
BT was once a place founded on mutual respect, and information sharing. New content was generated daily by active members eager to share their knowledge and experience for the benefit of the group. We had active moderators who worked to preserve the culture.
I miss those days, but its hard for me to complain if I’m not willing to generate content myself. While we have lost many real experts, I am willing to share what little I know and learn to attempt to preserve a bit of that old BT experience. I have learned so much about aviation and life from those guys. I have MANY real life friendships that can be traced back to BT.
I am not a brand loyalist. Having owned many types I can tell you they all do some things great and some poorly. Loading up a TN A36 with Docs and going into a bush strip in Mexico would be a really bad idea for example (regardless of what the W&B says).
Hopefully others will see this and will put in the work to create content as well. Without it, we are nothing more than a glorified comments section on a news site.

Not sure how many Bonanzas are in commercial use in Alaska, but a few weeks ago I was in Kodiak on a hunting trip. Eight guys, rifles/bows and lots of gear had to get out to Port Lions. The charter operator had a fixed gear ‘toga, 206s, Caravans and several other planes I’m sure, but the plane they flew us out in was the Saratoga. Took three trips, the last of which was just the gear, and I’m still amazed that they fit all that crap in that plane! I have a 206, another buddy in the group has a 182, and we both shook our heads and said no way! Gonna take a fourth trip for sure, but we were wrong. With four big passengers and a pilot we used quite a bit of runway coming out of ADQ but it worked. I was very impressed with the performance and the interior space/comfort of the Saratoga! In the last six months I’ve had the opportunity to fly in a Cherokee 6 and a ‘toga, both fully grossed and in remote locations and they have impressed me with their capabilities.

In my happy place this morning.
6 jugs 80 over 80!!!
You can see the #3 plug is lean due to the injector swap in Memphis. John-Paul sent me a replacement for #1 so I can replace and swap back.
