It was a RTO, so if the damage was there before, DEFINITELY a preflight issue!

My perception from the vid is that he was past Vr, well past the point on the runway where he/she should have been well airborne.

Looks like a walk-away, sure hope so. Very solid looking "wreck".

Very curious. Hope it's not the old control lock thing...

No control lock on the Cirri. The spring cartridges insulate the control systems.

This happened last year. San Carlos (SQL) is a short-ish runway, 2600ft. The plane was new, and so was the pilot. 4 month old license (PPL) and 115 hours TT, about 22 in model.

I believe the theory is that he did not lower the flaps for takeoff, and when the airplane reached rotation speed and then some, and did not want to fly, the pilot freaked out (my term, not the NTSB’s :D ) and decided to abort. Only he was going 80kias and had eaten up most of the runway. He never quite got airborne, blew through the perimeter fence and came to a stop outside the airport, just before the large road perpendicular to the runway. People on board were lucky to get out unscathed.

NTSB report here: https://www.ntsb.gov/_layouts/ntsb.avia ... 012&akey=1
