I know an owner with a grounded Seneca II and the costs to bring it back up will probably exceed the value of the plane. The options are to overhaul everything and take a bath on resale, part out what they can and scrap the rest, or park it.

How much can an owner get from parting out a Seneca II? It was flying regularly until a few years ago. Assume core value on engines and props. No structural damage.

I'm sure it's going to depend on a lot of factors but I just need a rough ballpark.

The airframe is probably worth $10K tops + motors + props + depreciated avionics. If it has a legacy stack then I would put a near zero value on the panel. I think you'll probably get $20-25K depending on whats in the panel and maybe that's generous. Someone like Dodson would come in and offer $10K. The metal airframe is worth close to beer can value. Sure you could sell some flight controls but you may be staring at this eyesore for years. It's the little parts that have value and it's a lot of time and work to pull them so these only have value to the right sort of individual.

You asked a fairly open ended question but we do this math a lot on some larger airplanes and that's the basic formula with the exception of the first number.

You might be better off donating it intact to an A&P school and taking a tax deduction.

You may want to consider just selling it as-is. An A&P may take on a project if the project makes sense. Assuming everything is timed out, it’s best to try to part it out.

I’d guess overall $20-25 plus avionics.

Please let me know if he chooses to part it out.

Tough one. A good Seneca II, II, IV, V is still worth decent money, largely depending on the value of the engines.

But it is an easy $100k to deal with runout engines and props and that eats up what value might be in the whole plane.

Damaged - it would be worth whatever parts are good and scrap.

I enjoyed owning mine. Great utility value.
