Hello all,

I recently purchased a 1975 Cessna 210L with 3,500 hours TT and 500SMOH. I posted on BeechTalk before asking about IO-520 vs 550 vs TC vs TN and was looking at both A36s and 210s. I ultimately ended with a non-turbo 210 due mostly because of $$$. The prices of 210s are really depressed right now vs A36s of the same vintage. I flew out to Ohio last week and brought it back to PHX Saturday morning. Flew at 165 kts TAS at 8,500 and 13 GPH.

Now that I have a plane, in order to keep it my wife needs me to have partners :). It is currently at a covered tie-down at Falcon, and I am close to getting a full hangar.

I have attached some pics to this post

I paid $115,000 for this plane including the prebuy from Paul New at Tennessee aircraft (he is the new "John Frank"). It has 1 airworthy item - two ribs are broken in the horizontal stabilizer, that should get fixed ASAP. The annual is also due in December. This is a 2 owner aircraft - the original owner was in PHX and the second owner, since 1985 was a husband and wife IAs at Hartzell field Ohio. They had a shop and restored aircraft and also maintained this airplane.

I am looking for up to 4 partners to split the $115 evenly with me, and fly the plane like a club (monthly fixed costs, and hourly rate that we put into maintenance reserves).

Equipment -
STEC 30-2 Autopilot with Alt Hold
2Mark 12D Narco Radios with separate DME on both Navs
GMA 340 audio panel
Apollo 50X GPS with separate CDI
Hartzell Scimitar 7691 prop - 500 SNEW
Garmin 496 panel mounted
Digital Tach
Electronics instruments UBG 16 engine monitor
1 Glideslope CDI and 1 VOR CDI
KT 76A Mode S Transponder
Working 3M Stormscope (installed 1 year ago)

If you are interested, please PM me.

Thanks!

Jake

Pretty plane.

Suggestions

1) Craigslist
2) Flyers on local bulletin boards
3) Guys who have a smaller (or bigger) plane but want some extra lift
4) Be sure to post on cessna.org and https://www.cessna-pilots.net/

Having Paul New check out your 210 was a great idea. Nobody knows them like he does.

Congrats! Looks like a good deal on a very capable plane.

How do ribs get broken in the tail without external damage?

From what Paul told me, people use the horizontal stabilizer to push down on to move the nose. That might work with a 172, but with a 210 that doesn't work too well. I have attached a pic of the inside of horizontal stabilizer with the bent rib (it is upside down).

It wasn't enough to cause external damage, but when you "squeeze" the abrasion boot, you can feel and hear a "pop" as the skin flexes down to the bent/broken rib (that is a small amount of corrosion in the pic as well, and the plane has been treated with corrosion X. From what i was told that amount is normal for a 210).

I was quoted $5k on the fix (replace ribs, reskin), and if i was going to do that I might as well do the whole service bulletin (88-03) since the tail will be off anyway ($5k more).

Thanks for the explanation. I can certainly see people doing that, I'm sure I'd be one of them if someone told me it was okay. I have done it with 172s, but was warned to be careful because it can break the fairing on the vertical stabilizer. Seemed easy enough just not to put my hand on that part.
