Comanche 250 ($70k)
and a lear 31A ($700k).
Dump the engine program, scrap the insurance, Charter-lite 50 hours / year, pencil whip the inspections and park it when the money is gone.

(^^ is what somebody might do ^^)

An older Meridian and an older Extra 300L for me. Could probably acquire and get 10 decent years of flying out of both of them for $2m. I'd be pretty happy with that hangar.

Randy’s MU-2 and what’s left from $1 million for operating costs.
The other $1 million on the best warbird I can get for the money. Sell rides in it so I can fly it for free. Sell it for more than I paid for it in 10 years, rinse and repeat. Yeah, I know, but the thread title is fantasy, so don’t nitpick the details!

Sadly a new SR22 would eat 2 million in 10 years, hardly a "fantasy" airplane. Can I have two million more please?

A new SR-22 is about $0.8 million. How are you spending $120,000/year on fuel, hangar, and upkeep?

I'm gonna guess your older Meridian + older Extra cost < $900,000. That leaves you $110,000/year to operate. At $600/hour for the Meridian, and $200/hour for the Extra, you get 137 hours in each. That's not bad.

How much does your Lear 31A cost per hour (ignoring engines, including co-pilot)? I'm just curious how many hours you get with this scheme.

Scrap insurance and pencil whip inspections. That's a combo. I like the idea though. :-)

For a private operator if you can't find a copilot to fly for the thrill of it or train your partner to be a pilot it would be hard to operate. Figure 200gph in fuel at $3 / G.

Use the Comanche for local flights / the Lear for everything else ha.

Pfft - in for a penny, in for a pound. If you're gonna pencil whip the inspections, then pencil whip a certificate for your gear monkey.

I've often wondered what I would do if I had a lot of money but, since I don't, I'm living my fantasy with this. Kit cost=$15,975 (less engine, panel, paint, and interior). It cruises at 165-170 Kts on 6 GPH (less at 12,500'). Three years ago I made a 5,000 mile trip across the Country and the total fuel was 266 gallons or $1,448.40. That works out to 18.8 MPG. I'm happy with my little 140 HP rocket ship and I get to do my own annuals, too:

Yeah, I think I'm in the ballpark. Extras are a fair bit more than $200/hr to operate, especially if you fly them the way Walter intended- there will be multiple prop overhauls over the 10 year period - but I'd be hard-pressed to put more than 60 hours/year on one so the math kinda sorta pencils out.

You did say airplane (S) and some of us are a bit plane knutz.

Might be able to squeeze in a used Stemme motor glider in the mix also and stay
at 1.99999999999999999 mil

Or sell Citabria in two years and buy the Stemme.

As much as I like me Aerostar the F90 King Air Adam suggested might call my name too loudly in 3 or 2 years.

$200K Citation 500. Install some questionably legal long range tanks in the cabin and go spend your $1.8 million traveling around the world until the money is gone. I think you could probably live a few good years on the road until the money is gone and the motors are worn out.
