Randy’s MU-2 and what’s left from $1 million for operating costs. The other $1 million on the best warbird I can get for the money. Sell rides in it so I can fly it for free. Sell it for more than I paid for it in 10 years, rinse and repeat. Yeah, I know, but the thread title is fantasy, so don’t nitpick the details!

(^^ is what somebody might do ^^) How much does your Lear 31A cost per hour (ignoring engines, including co-pilot)? I'm just curious how many hours you get with this scheme. Scrap insurance and pencil whip inspections. That's a combo. I like the idea though. :-)

I like the idea though. :-) For a private operator if you can't find a copilot to fly for the thrill of it or train your partner to be a pilot it would be hard to operate. Figure 200gph in fuel at $3 / G.
Use the Comanche for local flights / the Lear for everything else ha.

I've often wondered what I would do if I had a lot of money but, since I don't, I'm living my fantasy with this. Kit cost=$15,975 (less engine, panel, paint, and interior). It cruises at 165-170 Kts on 6 GPH (less at 12,500'). Three years ago I made a 5,000 mile trip across the Country and the total fuel was 266 gallons or $1,448.40. That works out to 18.8 MPG. I'm happy with my little 140 HP rocket ship and I get to do my own annuals, too:

Yeah, I think I'm in the ballpark. Extras are a fair bit more than $200/hr to operate, especially if you fly them the way Walter intended- there will be multiple prop overhauls over the 10 year period - but I'd be hard-pressed to put more than 60 hours/year on one so the math kinda sorta pencils out.
