I believe the SBCSO historic museum has a great external protective device. I just couldn’t swing the shipping, Dave. Hope to meet you at Fry Canyon, if my plane ever comes home. Note to all, never, never, never buy an aircraft from Carlsbad, Ca-regardless of a positive Cessna Service Center inspection noting spots of light external surface corrosion... JGG and I have something in common (couldn’t find emoji of inside out wallet)

Thanks everyone for the reply. Sounds like the interior shades are a bad idea so I'll stick with the external cover for now. A few months ago I did clean the external cover where it contacts the windows but if the wind is blowing pretty hard I'll most likely to just leave it off to prevent any scratching. Dave

Well, when I got to KHII today the wind was blowing about 10 knots and I couldn't get my Kennon full wrap around cover on by myself. A total exercise in futility. I guess I'll have to wait for the wife to get here later tonight and she can help me in the morning. Dave

Interesting. Either of you gentlemen have any photos of such an event?

Today I picked up my 182 from Arizona Aircraft Maintenance at KHII where I had both fuel bladders changed. Back in December I purchased two new bladders from Eagle along with the Eagle fuel drains but my A&P was never able to squeeze me into his schedule so one day about a month ago I popped into AAM and talked to them about it. They worked it in within a couple of weeks and I was very pleased with their quality of work and price. They did a very nice job. Now I can throw away my custom threaded caps I made for the old style drains. http://www.azairmaintenance.com/index.htmlDave

Dave I have the Bruce's cabin cover for my 182, but I don't use it anymore on trips where I'm tied down outside. I used it in the desert once, tied down for a few days. Sand was blown in under it, and just the slight movement by the wind caused a little scratching over the entire windshield and rear window, but easily polished out when I got home. I used the cabin cover, tail cone cover, horizontal stab cover, cowl cover and prop cover when I was in a shade hangar to keep some dust off and for low sun angles, not subjected to wind. Now when I have to park out in the sun on trips I put a large white terry towel over the black glare shield, and that keeps the interior heat down some. I also have a full set of Kennon reflective shields I don't use for the reasons stated above by others. I do use my cowl cover and prop cover in the hangar in the winter to keep the heat in the engine compartment.

All: I need to find some type of a rear window shade for the back window on my 182. When flying east towards the river house in the late afternoon my black Labrador gets too hot from the sun blazing into the back seat. Any ideas or options that others have done here? Thanks. Dave
