Many folks add a tail skid to help protect the plane. Others move the tail tiedown ring to the side, since that’s what hits.

Yes on the VGs.

It’s a lot. Extended baggage, jump sests, large nose fork, big tires, wigwag wingtips.

The first 182 I flew was a 182 M back when I learned to fly, then later instruct in them. That plane became my favorite airplane to fly, and I thought they couldn't improve on the handling and performance until the flight school bought a new '73 182P.

The noticeable difference was in the low speed handing with the new cuffed (or drooped) leading edge like the Sportsman leading edge.

The 182M was fairly docile in the stall but the P model is even more docile. Even in a deep stall the plane can be maneuvered , flying around doing turns while in the stall with power on.

Kinda like this ;)

Reviving and old thread here...

Looks like I need to put new seals in the nose strut on my 182 as I'm starting to see a slight oil film on the chrome strut after several hours of flying. I ordered the seal kit from Aircraft Spruce and it was only $18. Looks like the kit does just about every nose wheel Cessna in the fleet.

So, has anyone done this job before and if so do you have any good advice or pointers that make the job easier? I'm going to attack this project in the next couple of weeks.

I did the one here a couple years ago.
I would suggest pulling things apart to clean and grease the the large needle roller bearings up there as well.
On the 1965 182H here it hadn't ever been lubed and I ended up replacing many parts, including the upper strut, due to rust and wear. I replaced both the big needle bearings as well. At least on this one there isn't any way to lube these bearings short of disassembly.
The o-ring replacement was pretty straight forward as I recall. I also did the one on top where the Schader Valve is as I had the whole thing blown apart.
Good luck

You can't have too many dental picks! ...and a little tape over them so they don't score the O-ring...

Better yet, but the reinforced Nylon picks.

Well, that was really easy to do. Exactly 2 hours flat to reseal the strut and get it all back together. We put sandbags on the horizontal stab to make the airplane sit on it's tail then placed a 5 gallon bucket under the strut and removed the retaining and it pulled out nice and easy and all the fluid went into the bucket. Hardest part was rotating the retainer ring over to the witness hole so you could push it out. It took longer to clean and service the front wheel bearings while I had it apart. ;)

So, the plastic center console cover in my 182 finally gave up the ghost after being patched and repaired over the last 52 years of it's life. I bought an aftermarket one from Selkirk Aviation and started to fit it tonight and WOW. This thing is a pretty close fit and only required a little bit of filing to make it fit. Much smaller slots and a cleaner design. The only difference is the taper at the bottom near the fuel selector compared to the stock one. I noticed this provides a little more foot room when getting into the airplane. My carpet kit will be a little wonky around but I plan on painting the floor in that area charcoal black so you won't really notice the small pie spaces. But overall thumbs up to Selkirk for making a nice part and matching my color almost perfectly!

Dave - Thanks toward the Selkirk Center Console PIREP

I’ve emailed Selkirk towards availability of such for my 1977 C182Q….

I really like the thought of the narrower base

Here's how it turned out around the carpeting kit. I just painted the floor around this area satin black and it looks fine. No need to modify the carpet for me. :)

Is this the correct part you got:

SA74-18-1 Pedestal cover Sold separately $354.00 ??

As you know the 1969 console is simply not obtainable at all anywhere. I have gotten tired of patching and hoping. Your new looks good, very good.

Richard,
Yes, that is the correct part number. My original one has been patched so many times over the years it looked like a jigsaw puzzle. I was very happy with the Selkirk one. The fit was almost perfect and required only a little bit of filing for clearance on the trim wheels. My IA said the Selkirk one was the best fitting one out there so I went with it.

Ordered today. They even have a blue color that mostly will match my interior!

Also Dave you might should get a commission. Sales told me I was the 2nd call today for this exact part - and I called before lunch CDT.
