Here's the air mattress you want. Those 2 inch thick Thermarests are for the birds. I've had 2 of these for the past 8-10 years. The carrying case is the pump and takes about 1 minute to inflate. https://www.amazon.com/Aerobed-Pakmat-A ... g=btalk-20
Whoa! I want...

Check out a Paco Pad, made in Aztec, NM. Typically at raft supply places. A tad bulky, but comfortable and tough.

Andrea and a couple of her buddies are backpacking the Middle Fork Salmon River trail the second week of june. They are trying to go ultralight so ill be stashing supplies at the various airstrips along the route. Should be fun. Mike, Thanks. Still don't know my schedule yet but I'll keep ya posted. Also, do you take the back seats out of your 182 when taking your Labrador on camping trips? Or is there enough room with the seats in it and all the stuff? Just curious about the configuration. Dave

Dave, I have the Atlee Dodge Jumpseats so they are folded up and stowed about 95% of the time. But, when you come out to Idaho, don't sweat it. There is a HUGE variety of strips for all levels and planes. I'd love to get you into some really sweet places other than smiley or Johnson........ like Sulphur or Indian. Much better wilderness experience. If you want to arrange a day where we fly into several strips in my plane to get acquainted with the place, I'm happy to do it.... done it with several BTrs. You will soon realize it aint that big of a deal. Hell, Newpower can even do it. ............seriously, he'll tell you it isn't as big a thing as people make out.
Regards, Mike

Last night I spent some time in the 182's POH digging into the weight and balance section so that I could plug in the arms of everything into the weight and balance function on my Garmin 796. Now I know why everyone likes the 182. I did a bunch of sample loading's on the 796 and you'd have to be real careless to get that thing out of CG. Getting it over gross is easy but going outside the CG envelope not so much. My useful load is 1033 lbs. Dave

The 182 is a really well made plane. W&B is good, useful load is great, resale is great, cost of operation is low. Flys easy. Just not as fast or sleek as a Bonanza.
When you run the numbers, not much is better than a 182. On another thread, someone said that in (25) years around airports, he never heard “I regret buying a 182”.
I think the 182 and A36 are probably the most useful and practical singles built. The next step to something better than a 182 or A36 is a huge jump in cost of purchase or operation.

My dream airplane has always been an A36 or F33 but I know that my mission just doesn't fit those airplanes. But I can dream can't I? Dave

Just curious about the configuration. Dave Dave, I take the rear seats out because it is easier to get stuff in and out from the main door vs the small baggage door. Removing the seats is not difficult and the learning curve is short. I had my mechanic do a W&B with the rear seats removed and insert it in the POH when they are out. I also have a "normal" and "cargo" W&B excel spreadsheet for which ever configuration I am using. I would be happy to share them with you, just PM me with a good email. Kevin
