Nothing beats the roar of two GE F404 afterburning engines. That little Lancair caught my eye and the price is less than what most of our wives have parked in the driveway. My beater has 129k miles on it and I argued to keep it for another 129k miles to buy that Lancair.

I would have bargained with SWMBO to put that (then $55k, now $50k) Lancair in my stable.
...until I found out IT WAS TOO FAST for Basic Med.
Yes, that's right, that gorgeous little yellow beauty is too fast for Basic Med!

I'm intrigued by 'the egg', never seen one in the flesh and the only one I ever saw for sale was listed in a Starman auction several years ago. I guess it has support as the company website was last updated 2017.

http://www.questairventure.com/home-1.html

Wonder how it compares to an SX300.

I’m pretty sure you’re wrong about that. My understanding of basic med is that it requires you to be at or below 6000#, 18000feet, and 250kias.

I’ve never even sat in a lancair, but I’d be very surprised to find out that Vne is anywhere near 250 Kias.

I think you should go buy it right now. ;)

Edit: found an online reference suggesting Vne is 235 knots, so you’re good to go.

I have found 26 flying (at least flying at one time) turbine Legacy aircraft.

I've only seen 1 Lancair Legacy with a turbine (and technically it's not even a Legacy anymore)

Extra? check this out:

man that looks enticing...

Apologies for the echo. I am not sure what happened there. It seems like my browser sent 4 post commands.
...definitely not cool. Had I seen them earlier I would have killed them.
Sorry!

Sorry!

It's almost always a quirk where the poster's computer and the website aren't talking to each other properly. I don't think anybody thought it was your fault.

Still, I gotta have some fun with it (fun with it... fun with it...)

:D

When I went looking for a serious toy my first thought was a little Mig (15,17, or 19). Friends that knew the breed, and me, said it really wasn't the place for someone without a good dose of swept wing experience. Next, was the TS11, L29/39. The TS11 and L29 were just to ugly, so I tried on the L39, nice ride but it just didn't blow my hair back the way I thought it would. Ended up with a big engine T28.

Now the T28 looks like a beer keg with a plank shoved thru it, but is is hands down one of the nicest flying planes I have ever been in. NAA knew how to build piston powered planes and it shows. Not as sexy as a Spit, an F4U or a P51, but 300kts, 3000+ ROC ain't to shabby! Sitting with your feet against a 1820ci engine at full snort is HP you can feel in your bones! Once you are done turning copious amounts of AvGas into noise, you can pull it back to econo-cruise and get about the same MPG as a Baron while still going 220kts.

And it comes equipped with a training wheel...

Jeff
