We have one here on our field I have flown a couple times, and wasn't that impressed with climb performance. Better than the old A65, but not as good as I expected to see with a 60% hp increase. If you built yours light that may help, this one has alot a citabria interior appointments that added weight.

I’ve flown an O-235 Champ. It takes it out of the Light Sport category with 2 aboard but it doesn’t care and it flys more like a Citabria. The A-65 on a hot day forces one to get the most possible lift out of that big ‘ole wing. Pucker factor is proven to add a few feet. This is an involuntary reaction.

That's without the wheel pants (collecting dust on a shelf in the hangar in case the buyer after me wants them). It was weighed during the annual when I purchased it. Low weight / high useful load were the primary reasons I went with this particular plane.
