I'm looking for some ballpark labor hours to comply with Cessna Service Letter ME76-2 (SL ME76-02 is how it is listed on Textron publications website). The compliance is to inspect landing gear side brace and associated linkages and attachment structure. If a crack(s) is found, install Service Kit SK414-8E.
For those of you who have had this kit installed (the entire kit, because this 310 does have cracks in the wheel well ribs, both left and right wells), can you share man hours?

Del, if the cracks are at the landing gear actuator attachment at the spar I believe this is the same issue addressed in SK421-142-2. We completed one of those last year and expect 35-45 hours at a minimum. There is little access and on the 414 and 421 the bleed air ducts to the heat exchanger need to be moved for access. This would not be the case on a 310. I would use that as and estimate and charge time and materials for the task as there can be complications. We quoted and charged 45 and took 60 hours. Big money maker, we will make it up in volume right?

I had this done last year. I was charged 80 hours of labor for the side brace kit and upper wing skin cracks repair.

Log book entry says, "CW Cessna MEB76-2 Main landing gear side brace rib reinforcement by installation of SK414-8E (See 337 form). CW Cessna MEB08-3 SID57-10-03 upper wing skin cracking inspection. Inspected and found cracks (repaired per maintenance manual)(See 337 form date)"

If I ever sell the 310...someone's going to get one hell of a squared away airplane.

Del,
The amount of time and ancillary parts in addition to the "kit" depend on which model C310 you are working on. The oldest models require the most parts (some of which may be unobtainable) and different labor steps.
What do I mean?
The above wing exhaust airplanes have tapered engine nacelles, no fairings and don't require cutting to access the rivets that need to be drilled out and replaced. Below wing exhaust models have straight nacelles which run straight back, obscuring some of the rivets, and need to be cut away.
Older models have up-lock hooks that will need to be replaced because there are two (fore & aft) angle braces that get installed on either side of the top side brace fitting, that interfere with the hook thru-bolt. Later models already have these angles and hooks with a welded pivot on one side and a countersunk lock screw on the other.
While a little confusing, the directions for SK414-8E, list the additional parts required.
I've begun accumulating the parts made of unobtainium for my F model, which doesn't have any cracks for the inevitable (so I'm told) day cracks appear.

Thanks Gary. I've researched the parts situation, availability and cost for this straight 310. I am more interested in man hours, and I understand that can vary.

Del,

Sorry, I misspoke, probably obvious from the detailed pictures provided by other posts. The 421 kit I installed is obviously not the same as what you are addressing. The 421 kit put a doubler on the spar web at the actuator attach. This one looks like nearly as much fun.

Steve

Hi Del,
I am looking to install the kit on my 310N...A few months ago I communicated with Tony Saxton of TAS Aviation.....Tony is the maintenance guru for the twin cessna owners group...Tony quoted me 80-100 hours of labor....says some mechanics experienced with the install can do it a bit quicker.....twincessna.org is a resource....good luck...the big shocker was the other parts required other than whats included in the $600 sidebrace kit....another 8K in parts !!
Good luck

Hi Rick,
I was quoting to a prospective customer who was selling his 310. Cracks were discovered on both wing ribs during a pre-purchase inspection.
Yes, you have to read the fine print. The Service "Kit" only contains the fitting common to all twin models. Then you must purchase many other parts specific to model and SN#. I figured approx $22,000 parts and labor for an early 310.
I knew it was big deal, but didn't realize it was that $$$. The 310B we purchased recently already had the kits installed. It's a deal breaker on an old twin Cessna
