Thats why Cessna has grown their MSU fleet.

MSU I assume stands for Maintenance Service Unit. They have one in Orlando in Greensboro? in the SE? Regardless they still charge for travel time.

Mobile Service Units. Cessna has them positioned all across the world.

If your buddy has a spare wheel, drop me a PM and I’ll forward you the phone number of a mechanic who is willing to help.

I believe he is asking for someone to change a wheel (as in assembly) not remount a tire. Big difference!

Where is he getting the wheel assemby from? Spare wheels are expensive for Citations. And that's not how proparts works which was metioned.
I would expect that any subscription maintenance program including parts availability would have spare wheel and tire assemblies available in strategic locations to support their customers. Tire failures and flats are not that uncommon. In my world, most of the jet operators have spare wheel and tire assemblies for nose and mains. It is the cost of doing business when time counts. Otherwise, without a plan in place you take your lumps and hope for a friend to come pick you up and continue to the party.

My experience has been maintenance programs cover tires, not wheels. Therefore operators must have spare wheels to minimize downtime.

I would go the MSU route, try to pre-arrange the NDT service in advance - some of the MSU's can do it - depends on the certs of the particular techs on the MSU.

The Mustang requires fairly specialized jacking equipment. Two ways it can be jacked (wing or axle) unfortunately for jacking - the wing on a Mustang is unusually low, so requires a short jack, but the jack has to have quite a lot of travel because of the trailing link suspension - more than a single stage jack that short is capable of. Mustang wing jacks are 2 stage jacks - I don't know of anyone that makes jacks for a Mustang other than Tronair and they are long lead times and pricey.

To jack the Mustang from the axle also takes a special jack.

The beauty of dual wheel gear. No jack needed. I always carry a spare tire with wheel and can change one before the truck is done fueling.

I think that's the issue: Only the service centers have the special jacks. The MSUs don't even have the tire. Thus, he is stuck with 2 men and truck driving a long distance and charging him. They also charge for sitting around 2-3 days for the wheel to get tested and repainted. I guess the MSUs are mainly for little stuff that doesn't require heavy equipment.

MSU's can do engine swaps but they can't carry a complete parts inventory. They do diagnostics and parts are shipped or flown to them.

I know jets are expensive, but could someone show me how the math adds up for a $20K tire change?
