We think your wheel is Bad: $12K but have to send 2 guys up (2 days travel= 40 hours + 1 day of work, 20 hours) That's about $20K.

We think your wheel is A OK but we have to NDT test it: (same travel time of 40 hours plus another 2-3 days of sitting around for NDT to be completed).

Regardless of either path, it's going to be a brutal expense.

Spare wheel/tire assy might be cheaper. Especially the next time it happens. It is also cheap insurance that it won’t happen again cause nothing you have will ever fail.

You would think that there would be a shop closer than sending for the MSU that could take the wheel off and send it out for the NDT. It takes two guys to remove the wheel?

We had a flat in DC a couple weeks ago called the MSU and they couldn't get to us for a couple days, and none of the larger shops in the DC area couldn't do it, so I called my old BT buddy, Rick Galvin, 5 minutes from KGAI and he got us set up with a local mechanic and we flew one of my tires in from Akron and we were done and gone in 4 hours on Sunday morning no less.

Tire $900, mechanic $600, fly tire in $1400, total $3K with Rick's breakfast.

BT buddy to the rescue.

That tire has an MSRP around $60k and the largest one Bridgestone makes is around $90k MSRP. I haul them all over the country.

In the 70s I flew an Aztec for a Florida Farmer with a 53 Hatteras convertible. We kept a built up main wheel in the baggage in case of a Bahama flat. Wouldn't you know a spiral from a Conch shell punctured my NOSEWHEEL at Walker's Cay. :pullhair: Fortunately, back then, there was a Twin Otter from FLL that had a scheduled Walker's run.

The local guys won't have the jacks for the Mustang

So what's the latest game plan?

They didn’t have the jack in DC for mine either so we flew the tire and the jack in. If there’s a will there’s a way.

You think Cessna is going to loan them a jack to ship there for another mechanic to use?

Of course Cessna is not going to lend it out, so you have to go to Orlando 400 miles away is the only shop with a jack for the Mustang? No shop in Atlanta 80 miles away doesn't have one? Cessna is the only shop with a Mustang jack?

I am just asking questions.

I'm sure West Star in Grand Junction has jacks, we have a set we bought here in South Texas - and there may be more I'm not aware of, but they are not common.
As per Tronairs website this is what they are suitable for:

Airbus Helicopter (Eurocopter) AS365N Dauphin | Airbus Military (CASA) 212-100 | Airbus Military (CASA) 212-200 | Airbus Military (CASA) CN-235/HC-144A | Bell 206B3 | Bell 206L4 | Bell 206LT | Bell 214 | Bell 214ST | Bell 407 | Bell 407GX | Bell 427 | Bell 429 | Bell 430 | Bell CH-139 | Bell OH-58 | Bell TH-67 | Cessna Citation CJ4 | Cessna Mustang 510 | Eclipse 500 | Fokker 50 |

There must be jack pads under the wing somewhere? Get the jack pad adapters and roll a $50 Home Depot jack under and be done with it, no? Can't see the owners south of the border who get stranded wait for a Cessna rep to fly in with his white gloves..... Get her done. :duck:

Won't work - the required jacks have 7" of mechanical extension and then 22" of hydraulic extension. It uses nearly all of it to get the trailing link clear of the ground.

Find a Home Depot jack with nearly 30" of travel that will fit under a 20" from the ground wing.

Seems easy enough, but it's quite a challenging aircraft to jack without special equipment.
