Trying to get to the bottom of this, hoping someone here can help!

How many seats are permitted to be installed in a C414? I'm talking tip tank model, not the 414A. Most I've seen on controller are listed with 7 seats but I have also seen a few that have 8 seats. Was this certified with 8 seats but most owners have removed the rearmost seat adjacent to the potty? If so, could you simply just purchase an 8th seat and put it in assuming the seat rails are there?

I understand the W&B issues and the likely hood of actually having 8 people in the cabin. Need space for kids...

The Cessna 414 TCDS:

http://rgl.faa.gov/Regulatory_and_Guida ... Rev_49.pdf

No. of Seats

S/N 414-0001 through 414-0350
6 or 7 (2 at +137.0, 2 at +175.5, 2 at +215.5, 1 at +246.5)

S/N 414-0351 and on
6 (2 at +137.0, 2 at +175.0, 2 at +218.0)
7 (with toilet option) (2 at +137.0, 2 at +175.0, 2 at +218.0, 1 at +250.0)
(See manufacturer's equipment list for optional seating arrangements)

Now, just because the TCDS says 6 or 7 doesn't mean Cessna doesn't have an option for 8 or that somebody else doesn't have an option for an 8th seat by STC.

Note that the 421B (tip tank) says it can have up to 10 seats. Same cabin essentially as the 414.

The Type Certificate Data Sheets shows 6-7. I suppose you could put eight in by a STC, but you would have to put a ton of ballast in the nose, and then you would be very fuel limited even with the RAM upgrade.

I don't have a copy of the POH with me for the one I occasionally fly, but it's setup for seven total, one of which is on the potty.

I've looked online to see if someone has an STC to add an 8th seat but couldn't find anything and yet I see on controller some tip tank 414s that have 8 seats. How?!
