Yours is the 1st photo of Bald Eagle on the Internet I've seen wearing it's new paint. We've been keeping it under wraps until this trip.
Photo Jim sent me while there in Tulsa.

Question: how does one keep spendy birds like these so shiny? (I have a much less spendy polished bird and always open to ideas.)

For the bare Alum we use Calif Purple Polish for light to medium Cleaning/Polishing. If it needs more then the various grades of Nuvite are used.
For painted areas with gloss we used a tub of wipes called Dyna Wipes on bugs and oil followed by a towel to dry. Works well on bugs. Cleaning we use Meguiars Cleaning Wax, wiped on a damp applicator and wiped off before it drys. Not trying to build a wax layer, just clean. Surface is left clean and slippery enough.
Use Meguiars cleaner wash on plexiglass as well.
Heavy oil and Hyd fluid we use Mineral Spirts in a squeeze dispenser. Squirt directly on metal or on a rag to wipe.
Hardly ever use water hose to clean anything.

...and a lot of good, old fashioned, elbow grease!

A video clip from last years USAF Heritage Flight Training Conference at DMAFB.
Bald Eagle was Blue then, as it has been since about 1980. Now it's a bit more accurate Dark OD.

It’s really hard to find bottle of that elbow grease anywhere!

Thanks! I’ll have to give California purple a try. I’ve been using nuvite’s cleaning compound (I think it is called nushine). Spendy, but seems to work ok as a cleaner after each flight to knock off bugs and leave a protective film. I’ll do anything to keep the cyclo polisher on the shelf!

+1 on Meguires for painted surfaces!

Hi Rich,

Are the 8 kills authentic for Bald Eagle?

Gorgeously shinny, both of them!

No.
Jim BeasleySr, the current owners father, Painted this in the Markings of the original Bald Eagle which was an earlier B model P-51.
A/C closest to the camera in this Formation from July 1944. This Squadron, the 364th with the fuselage code of B7, was a part of the 361st Fighter group, Yellow Nose, of the 8th Air Force and was stationed at Bottisham Airbase in the UK.

Those two pilots are not having any fun, none whatsoever. Love it!
Just think about this for a bit. One mustang, two mustangs out cross country-ing to fly to some training. Any idea what it costs to own and operate one of these babies?

Only in America! I love it!

Original Bald Eagle B7-E taxis past a P-51 Squadron ready to launch for a mission in support of the D Day landings, June 1944.
