Anyone know of the quickest, easiest and least expensive way to get a bottle hydrostatically tested and returned to service with minimal downtime? Needing this is a first for me.

Take it to a place that does bottles for the fire department. It costs me about $40.

Is it a portable bottle or a built in? Some of the local (non-aviation) shops will balk if the aviation regulator is left on the bottle.

If this is a built in factory system, then you may want to send the entire unit to someone like Aerospace Turbine Rotables. Wichita was quick last time I used them. https://www.turbinerotables.com/

That's perfect. Thank you.

This seems rather silly to pull the nitrogen bottle out every 3 years and do this, ever heard of one blowing up?

Not in an airplane but in general yes, I have seen a damaged tank rupture and it wasn't pretty.

I assumed you were asking about 0xygen bottle testing

You might also want to check the type of bottle for any life limit, etc. Page 2 has some examples.

Can't a dive shop do it?

Michael,

I just had four oxygen bottles tested last week for $25 each in Orlando.

No, since they are all tested evety 3 Years. :duck:

You also have the fire bottles and the O2 bottle in your Citation that need periodic testing.

A nitrogen bottle used as an accumulator on an A4 Skyhawk for the canopy system blew up while a tech was servicing it at my friend's shop. Hit him in the forehead and knocked him off the maintenance stand he was on...Somehow he survived, with a new oddly shaped head...the point is yes it does happen, albeit rarely.

Other than a few very rare exceptions, dive shops don’t do their own hydros. They send it to the same place to local fire extinguisher company and similar places use. Better to skip the shop’s markup and take it direct to the testing facility.

I have experience with these folks. Quick turnaround. If you want your regulator checked, they do that also.
