A few concepts have hybrid power systems, on board generator with small battery pack.

http://www.samadaerospace.com/The major issue with a battery only version is that it won't fly very long, typically less than an hour, and then needs considerable time to recharge.
Hybrid systems solve that and reduce battery pack weight to just that really needed in an emergency (say 10-15 minutes) or for peaking power (extra boost on liftoff).
