Inside baggage compartment, there is a triangle shaped plate on rear part of nose gear well. remove that and check to make sure roller is in track.

I have heard of some people replacing that with clear plexiglass. So they can check it every walkaround. Probably need a field approval?

Ran into a little snag with the oil analysis report from last year's annual...high Aluminum and Iron readings with comments that explain it is likely due to corrosion, but damage cant be ruled out. The corrosion was expected given the humid environment and lack of flight time over the past 7 years (~50 hours). Another oil sample was just submitted after about 30 hours of flight time in the past 9 months, but the results haven't come in yet.

I found a similar thread that some of you contributed to titled "Prebuy Oil Analysis - Feedback requested". Lots of great comments there, and I suspect the same gameplan is appropriate here. Pull a few pushrods and inspect the cam lobes and lifters for spalling. Borescope the cylinders. Assuming that goes well, follow with frequent oil changes until the metal goes away.

I suppose the optimistic way of looking at engines that havent flown much and then show signs of corrosion is that.....they havent flown much so the likelihood of damage is lower.

Would appreciate any thoughts you have for this all too common GA problem.

Larry and Chris, Thanks for sharing your insights. I will definitely add these to my list of items to check out during a pre-buy.

Unlike some other Continental engines, TSIO-360's have oil suction screens (which are common on Lycoming engines), which should be pulled at each oil change and checked for metal or debris. Lots of mechanics don't know about these. Might be able to pull the screens and look for goodies if it has been overlooked.
