From https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stewart_International_AirportIn 1930 Thomas "Archie" Stewart, an early aviation enthusiast and descendant of prominent local dairy farmer Lachlan Stewart, convinced his uncle Samuel Stewart to donate "Stoney Lonesome", split between the towns of Newburgh and New Windsor, to the nearby city of Newburgh for use as an airport.

Did that small, little airport sport some military hardware in a previous life?

Kinda makes sense they would need to call in customs. I shudder to think of the cost of keeping sufficient customs personnel hanging around on a regular basis for the rare occasion when 500 international passengers drop in on an A380.
Surprised about the stairs though. Figure enough 747’s etc hang out at SWF during UNGA that there would be a tall stair truck somewhere.
Also love the idea that SWF is a “small” airport.
