When I flew hang gliders, we had a saying, "hang glider pilots don't let their friends fly paragliders". Their fatal accident rate is about 20 times higher than hang gliders. They have to throw their parachute about 100 times more often (search YouTube for "paraglider parachute deployment). They only have a few seconds to do their preflight before take off. Since there is no rigid structure, they tend to fold up in turbulent conditions. They can fly fairly slow, so they just barely kill you.
