I couldn't stay current flying a jet just 50 hours/year. I pretty much need to fly once/week for the first year when I'm new to a plane if I want to feel ok flying in challenging WX. Your plan to stay in VMC is good (or at least VMC down low).

My Citation mentor just invited me a trip to Louisville this weekend in his Ultra. I'm going to learn as much as I can flying with him. Mechanic is coming on Saturday to figure out why the right boot isn't sucking down fully. He's bringing an extra manifold but I'm hoping it's something as simple as it's sticking and can be lubed. I have a used part for $900 if that's the worst case scenario. I have a stack of Medeco locks so he'll probably replace the rest of the cabinet door locks on the various hatches with the Medecos.

MT, I’m so jealous. I long for the day I head out the door and holler to the wife, “honey, I’m headed to airport to work on the jet.”
:peace:

I flew my dad, wife and a friend to the naval aviation museum in Pensacola today. Absolutely the finest airplane museum in the country!

I have the airplane squawk free for this exact moment and all systems are operating perfectly. I picked up a little ice and the anti and deice systems are working great.

My Dad loved the right seat and my wife and buddy enjoyed sitting in the back. I'm slowly figuring out how to use the ancient KLN90 and although not up to modern standards, it's a perfectly capable and usable unit. I learned today that it operates perfectly in approach mode (just like an analogue Bonanza) instead of Nav mode. Even though it's /G having a slant I-Pad makes it perfectly usable.

On the flight home, we enjoyed our takeout BBQ; something I'e never had the space to do; eating a meal on a plate.

Pictures will follow in a moment; I highly suggest visiting this museum.

If you look at those pictures long enough, you’ll eventually see an airplane museum.

Great weekend. I spent 5.5 hours in an Ultra this weekend with my Citation mentor. I learned the Honeywell system which doesn't seem to be much more than a glass rendition of analogue gauges. The switches for the Ultra and my ISP are virtually the same but other than that; the ultra is a beast. FL450 doing 420kts and it took about 17 minutes to get to FL410.

What is the fuel flow?

What was your weight at that measurement?

Book values seem lower than that:

Works out to 417 KTAS if ISA.

Works out to 420 KTAS if ISA+3.

Pretty impressive.

Yup the Ultra is a beast for a old straight wing Citation. First plane I flew that I had to pull the power back after leveling off above FL400 or you would go over redline.
