Most of the inspiration was provided by this very thread by Michael Tarver. I am also thankful to the many folks who freely share valuable experiences and information in numerous other BrandX threads. AWESOME!! Congratulations. Mike, Gary, Bob, Sameer, Gerry, and Chris have all joined the Klingon 501SP Club. Anyone else secretly have one? Mike, Gerry and Chris are all former Eclipse owners. Bob moved up from an RV-10 and I think Sameer had a twin Cessna. Gary moved up from a Baron and a Cheyenne which he is keeping. The water is nice; who's next?

As Gary found out, the Bacon program goes with the owner, not the airplane. I think it's about 12K and extends the phase 5 to 6 years rather than 3. I'm finishing up a 1-5 on the second 500 longwing I bought (not a 501) and I'll let the group know the final bill but I think it's going to be under 30K including replacing a windshield and a cockpit side window. If 25K is the cost of a 1-5, and a 1-4 is about 12K and a 5 is about 12K; maybe the Bacon program represents a small cost savings over a long term ownership? The 500 is going to finish its final days as a full time trainer.

We just finished putting our 550 on Dick's program. Great people to deal with and everything went right thru the local FSDO very easily. Cost is $13,500 plus some minor expenses and plus an annual cost of $1,250. As MT said it extends the 1-4 from one to three years and phase 5 from three to six. Roughly 200 hrs max per year. You can transfer the program to the new owner for $2,500 if I recall correctly plus the possible cost of having to resubmit the program to a new FSDO. If you look at my apx labor costs of 15k for each the 1-4 and 20k for the phase 5. Over 6 years my apx labor costs are $100k without the program. Under the Bacon program my apx labor costs are $50k plus the cost of the program which if we amortize that over our maybe 6 year ownership period add another $3.3k per year over 6 years, so 70k for the Bacon vs 100k over six years. My numbers assumes that you are starting with a fresh 1 thru 5. Bacon also has about 200 programs in place and now has programs for the CJ series and early Lears, and he said he could get virtual a program together for the similar costs as the 500 series program for nearly any aircraft. Kind of no brainer if you plan on hanging onto the plane for a longer period of time. Gary

Probably should have never clicked on this post.. ..following this thread for the last few weeks....was very contagious...the end results is that I closed on N52TL this past Friday...I'm am now the proud owner of a C501SP. This aircraft having been located and based in NC most of it's life with the same pilot for the last 21 years...and a recent 1-5 inspection by my friends at "Carolina Aviation Technical Services"...with no major squawks....and new borescopes passing with flying colors.....seemed like a no brainer to me!!! With a few hours of flying in the left seat....I found this to be a no surprise aircraft....and dirt simple to fly.... I'll start the type rating this week..... Have a little paint work to do....extending the strips on the sides of nacelles!!! The engines are in great condition with next hots due in 1500 hours and plenty of cycles remaining....should last for remaining balance of my aviation en devour. I do have a few plans for the panel..... 1} Removing the KNL 90A gps.....don't know much about it or how to efficiently use it!!! 2} Removing the Bendix radar screen..... Adding a GTN 625.....Avidyne EX 500..... GTX345 remote TX...Flightstream 510 Attachment: 521.jpg Attachment: 524.jpg Attachment: 522.jpg Attachment: 00531.jpg Attachment: 00533.jpg Let this adventure begin....

Congratulations Conrad! You will love FL410. Not sure who you are using for the type but can recommend Doug Carmody from Beaufort SC. I am using him for my 61.58 next month. http://cessnacitationtraining.com/bio.shtml
