A couple of years ago I was doing a 61.58 and for what ever reason the motor stopped. I said to the instructor I’m not going to bother to restart as they never stop and restart, he said you’ve got to try for check....ok.

I look at N2 rotation after an engine failure. No N2, no restart. N2 spinning, I give it a try.

Btw I had an “ah ha” moment during my oral. We were discussing the electrical system. I casually mentioned that the fire systems weren’t on the emergency bus and how I thought that was odd. (Says something as to how (un)important the FAA/ Cessna considers them). 10 minutes later he says “what if you are in emer and a passenger says I think the engine is on fire?” How would you verify? Hmmm.

"How would you verify?"

By the presence or lack of shear terror on the passenger's face. :D

What did the examiner want to hear?

How would you verify if there is a fire or not?

Can't give the answer yet. Like I said...it was a real "doh" moment.

And the fact that you, with all your experience, didn't say "you idiot it easy just...." makes me feel good!

It must be a Cessna thing, on the Phenom 300 the fire detection system and the fire protection system are both powered by the Emer Bus.

In the Cessna system would they powered by the hot bus so that they were available at all times?

I would like to know the answer the examiner was looking for.

Depending on what else is happening you can go to NORM on the master for a minute and see if you get a fire warning.

Winner winner chicken dinner.

Staring you right in the face. But you get so focused on emer you sometimes block out the simple solution. Just cause you go to emer doesn’t mean you can’t switch to batt in a pinch. Odds of an engine fire AND an electrical failure are microscopically small but the meta point is don’t get so focused you overlook the simple solution.

Kind of reminds me of the old brain twister about how do you free the semi that gets wedged under the bridge? Seems as everyone focuses on lifting the bridge when all you have is do is lower the truck. (ie Let the air out of the tires).

Fuel fuel. Two up front and skis. That’s it.

That’s a good fuel burn I think the one I fly would be at least 100lbs more.

CJ owners look wise, in my eyes, as fuel prices rise.
