I don't know values, but the bird dog is a lot of fun.

The birddog is not an airplane to be taken for granted... No worse than a stock Stearman, but certainly not a Champ... The great springiness bites occasionally. If you are on your toes, no problem. If you're not, big problem...

AG It's good, but I think the Cub will still beat it - much lighter. Haven't flown one since I had my 170 many years ago, but it's basically an 0-470 powered, tandem seat C170 if I recall. For whatever reason, I've found the C170 and L-19 to the twitchiest of the Cessna taildraggers (compared to say a 120 or a 180). Solved the 170's waddle by putting 180 gear on it. Perfect.

For anyone considering some winter flying in an L19, I have a set of hydraulic Federal AWB2500 Wheel Skis originally designed for the L-19.
Would love to see someone get more use out of them then I have in the last 2 winters.

It was built from military surplus parts in 2003 so it is a 14-year-old bird dog. They had enough parts to build 11 of them I think. From what he told me it shares a lot of parts with the 170. It has 40 degrees of flaps so as long as the wind isn't too bad it can really come in steep and land short. It is extremely roomy. Gets you warbird parking... I'm still learning about these planes so I may be wrong but I think your friend has an L-19 built by Ector Aircraft. That's pretty cool to have a "new" L-19. BTW, those flaps go to 60 degrees so with the plane parked and the flaps down, they're just about perpendicular to the ground.
