It's a V-tail (actually a Y-tail)
Only a 700 mile range
It'll never get certified
The company will run out of money
Nobody with a brain will buy one

...I just thought I'd get all of those ideas into the thread right up front, so it won't take 300 BT pages.. :D

No kidding, why would anybody buy that when the Raptor is right around the corner! Less money and more range.

I can't afford to buy one.

I admire innovative thinkers. Out of the box thinking and willingness to invest a lot of sweat equity in the hopes of industry improvement is a trait that few have. I sincerely hope they make a dent in the aircraft industry. I think their vision is possible but as with anything new there will be obstacles that they must navigate. This company may or may not be individually successful but others around them and that come after them will learn from their successes and failures.

30 years ago nobody would have believed that a phone would ever be anything else than a phone. Nowadays it barely functions as a phone.

Go get em!!!!!

This kind of goes along with the Elon Musk thread.....

Nowadays a cool CGI video and some "outlandish claims" equates to "out of the box thinking" and "willingness to invest" and "sweat equity". How much does it cost to make a cartoon of a flying electric plane? How hard is it to do?

CNBC showed the cartoon like it is footage of a real airplane. "oh wow... look at it go... it really works"

Imagine the simplicity of an electric motor in an airplane. And no lost thrust as you climb.

Penman, tell your buddy Elon to forget the car and get to work on this!

I've had similar idea for years. Just to prove I'm not just saying that, here's a post I did on it in 2010 over at Pprune:

http://www.pprune.org/private-flying/400967-i-can-t-wait-electric-hybrid-aircraft.html

Hybrid aircraft will come - and they do make sense. But maybe not with this company. And not until FAA changes the certification rules.

In any case, I personally can't wait until our main propulsion is all electric to get away from this ancient steam technology. The TBO of a brushless ducted fan would only be limited by it's bearing life. Imagine that. It's going to revolutionize aviation and slash costs.

Electric/hybrid is how we save aviation.

Ho does a ducted fan produce thrust with no fuel expansion?

Ducted fan is driven electrically. Like in this little thing. The you have an APU that recharges the battery when needed.

And that can produce as much thrust as a JetA powered version?

Probably not in that little plane, no. But it's absolutely doable to have a ducted fan be able to match a jet engine in thrust. The R/C world has run powerful EDF's for decades.

That thing will fly for like 5 minutes. Not the same animal.

But that's a function of battery capacity, not thrust. Put bigger batteries in (or hybrid generator) and it will stay afloat much longer.

Sweat equity, now that’s funny. These people provided a computer simulation of a plane flying. Please invest in this and call me in 5 years.
