The 2-day APEX course was everything I expected and more. I let the instructor know ahead of time that I already invested a lot of time watching the many videos made available by Honeywell online. So we got right into the heart of the systems and I can confidently demonstrate what I need to this week: fly a scenario based profile to include a full route clearance, instrument departure procedure, enroute diversion, tracking and holding at an NDB/VOR, full ILS approach, and a missed approach. And I experienced some of the agony and the ecstacy:

Agony of manually entering altitudes for each leg of the MAZIE TWO arrival into Teterboro when enough of the fields in the FMW were not adequately completed to enable the performance computation.

The ecstacy of setting up holds and the vertical nav features.

It was my first experience in a turbine powered aircraft (simulator). So, of course, I left the course wanting more. But this class, for not much money, gave me a basic understanding of what such an advanced glass cockpit can do. Since I am a former software developer, the computer interface came naturally. However, there is no substitute for getting hands on the controls and making mistakes to really drive it home.

FWIW, back when I took the course, it was all videos. I never got to “touch” anything. World of difference...

Ok, no wonder!!! And they seem to only offer it on weekends when there is likely to be more sim time available.
