Most of the time I am happy puttering around in the 182 or the Cougar but there are times it would be nice to rent a 310. I can afford to rent it and to buy one, but don't have the hours or enough missions to justify putting one in the hangar.

How are parts and MX on the Cougar? Rare bird....

Last I heard the Cougar type certificate got split off from the rest of the Grumman line and sold.

Best,
Rich

Location? What is the availability and will they sell a block of time?

It is in Rapid City SD most of the time and comes to Pheonix as needed. There are some blocks available however I believe it is dual only or there is a large checkout needed for insurance. The plane is pretty open schedule wise, think there is one commercial student and one mei student in it now. And then a couple of commercial add ons in 8 weeks or something.

We got the 310 up and running. It's flying more than I expected (dual only for now). Our IA, who is really in tune with the whole engine management thing, purchased the equipment to perform the TCM fuel system SID and I've recommended that we get some sort of engine monitor/FF with a recording feature.

The rate is $315/hr ($305/hr block) wet.

In Dayton, OH a Seneca wet goes for $255/hour with Garmin 530W....Aztec for $250/hour dual only.

that's a little amusing, since the best intentioned renter could easily cook a seneca's engines, while TRW himself couldn't damage an aztec

Depends - the original model Seneca had non-turbo Lycoming IO360 engines. They're frequently used as trainers due to the low acquisition costs. I can see those being rented for $255/hr. Pretty much, can't hurt them. Fly like a wallowing hog though.

Seneca II and later have the turbo engines. (and a lot of other improvements) I've only rarely seen those for rental use. I owned one, not difficult to manage, but then again, I had an incentive since I was paying my own repair bills.

:bugeye: Insure a steel bar for enough money, and I'm betting on TRW.

The only steel bars TRW is going to have a go at in the next little while are the ones he’s behind. Shame it turned out the way it did but that was his own hole he dug and at least he’s still alive.

I did find his posts pretty entertaining though... :coffee:

The 310 looks nice. If I were doing the rental I’d think about working hard to get Block time sold and probably incentive the block rate a little more — say $295/hr. Giving up $10 is nothing if you sell more or bigger chunks of time and I think you’re so close to an attractive sounding price point you should just go for it.

Do you know what your insurance rate is and pilot minimums?

I’ll guess that old 310’s on rental will fly until the engines expire, and then be parted out.

Every time I see this thread title I get dyslexic and see "C-130" and think "Man, I'd love to get some dual in that!"
