Stairs casting broken at the top, where it enters the floor; this part is a catch that keeps the stairs up. It can't be repaired, imo.

I can't find an exploded diagram with PNs to ID what is needed.

I am aware of the Uvalde mod to replace the stairs ($21K) and we're not quite ready for that (neither do they have any cast off stairs to sell)

Thanks

No pics, so I can't say that for sure.

I can tell you my step were broken at one time and repaired:

The bulge in the middle is some sort of weld and I believe the parts are cast magnesium, so somehow that was done. Maybe in a nitrogen filled hood? Apparently, you can weld magnesium, but I bet that's tricky.

This is a known weak spot, some person decides to be "helpful" and folds up the stairs and puts too much force on the the little uplock arm and it breaks.

You used to be able to get the IPC off the support.cessna.com website, but they seem to have turned that off. Sigh.

I happen to have the CJ2 IPC, so it may be similar or the same. The upper part is PN 6319040-1 for early CJ2s. For my 560, it is 6519009-53. Not sure what the differences are, they look the same in the book.

I did find 6519009-75 in stock at Textron, $17,244. This is what they would sell for my plane now since the original is no longer available. My plane was made in 1991 so about as old as yours.

Try salvage yards. Might be rare to find ones in good shape.

Thanks Mike C
Are there salvage yards that collect CJ's?
I tried the usual light a/c yards and they didn't have any CJ parts.

I've had the following folks tell me they may have Citation parts:

Dodson
Atlanta Air Exchange
MTW Aerospace
Alliance Air Parts
White Industries

If you find others, let me know, I want to develop a list of such places.

Good luck.

Mike C.

I have this exact issue with my CJ2+, the shop said they SHOULD be able to do a weld repair and are working on finding out what material it is. The list price for the part now is $27,000, the aftermarket air stair door is "only" $20k if I needed to go that route.

I love looking at Tarver's Citations. ...now he is Tarver Air Parts.
Just reading that, it is awesome to see a BT brother doing another BTer solid.
Hopefully Cessna doesn't buy him out just to scrap his parts and sell NOS for 4x - 5x more!

A guy with a sawzall, some energy, and a probably growing collection of donor planes is going to have some parts.

Ha! Some? They are stacked everywhere. If you have a legacy citation make sure Mike is on your Christmas card list.

Here is my $25.00 fix

Got a pice of leather from an upholstery store had him sew me this piece around a heavy duty bungee the painted the leather to match. Just use the bungee to hold up the stairs. Has worked perfect for two years.

I kind of like this approach.

Gets rid of that catch arm that people break.

Allows you to get rid of the floor catch and plastic housing, one less thing to step on, too.

Looks easily replaceable.

Nice job!
