Here's the closer: As you may have seen, I have a 185 now! There's a long story to tell, too long, intimate, and embarrassing to air here at the moment.
But here are some observations. First, Supercubs are way overpriced. All of those $85k +/- Supercubs on TAP and Barnstormers? Most of them were there last summer and fall. I suspect most of those listed in the 80's will sell in the 70's, with many going in the 60's. Buyers have gotten too smart to look at tach time without considering calendar time. Sellers want to believe an engine with 200SMOH in 1989 is "low time."
The real creampuffs, listed at say $130 and up, should be absolutely perfect or else they're overpriced. "Perfect" means relatively recent fabric (stripped down to bare metal) and OH and all of the mods you've ever heard of. It also means there won't be any radio crap hanging down under the panel. Whether it means 180hp is up for debate.
Supercub.org is as good a resource for such things as BT is. I could've saved myself a lot of heartache and expense if I'd sought more specific advice there and sought it earlier.
And last, as stupid as it looks on the surface, "Skywagon vs. Supercub" can be a legitimate shopper's dilemma.
Oh, one more. . . . all of you people who posted on this thread, saying I should be looking at a Skywagon, were absolutely right!

Typical Beechtalk...go shopping for a simple tailwheel fun plane and come home with a C185. This place is like Costco. Congrats!
