Cirrus bashing, 182 loving, and Pilatus envy. That's about it.

Just for the record I'm not aware of any negative market issues with the Cirrus product - I speak from a position of owning a 2016 SR22 and also insuring over 300 Cirrus at present with that number growing by about 3-5 Cirrus per month.

Insofar as costs, I recently sold my 182 and am now driving a G1000 SR22. It's a bit more than the 182 in every regard but not dramatically so. My insurance is a bit more, it uses more gas, it's had more small squawks but overall it's not as expensive as the 206 I had before that, after six months and 100 hours. It's been a fantastic traveling machine that has really displaced more and more of my airline travels as I get more comfortable in challenging weather / DA / night operations. The passengers are also much less skeptical than in the 182. Nate is spot on regarding chute repack, depreciation and UL issues though. I'm hoping I bought right but ~$150 per month for the parachute is a very real cost whether you use the plane or not.

I want to know what it costs to repair the fuselage (assuming it isn't totaled) after CAPS deployment. It can't be cheap.

The prop looked like sharks teeth. Did I understand you right that lightning made a prop look like sharks teeth?? What is the physical process that causes such a thing?? I'm picturing maaaaaaybe melted prop, but I'm having trouble believing that's even possible from just a strike. You sure the claimant didn't turn his Cirrus into a lawnmower and hit it with the hose before calling you?

I don't like the prospect of the electronic ignition chute going off spontaneously with a lightning storm nearby. Better keep your cellphones turned off in flight, you never know The high cost, the weight, the repacking...does not appeal to me...but I guess I'm in the minority.

Gosh Arlen, do you think we need one?Maybe it is "unfair" to comment on the Cirrus, but there never seems to be a shortage of critiques regarding tail wag, CG or structural issues on certain other aircraft.
