Don't do it, MP -- the C182 will cost at least 25% more than your PC12 to run! :hide:

I gotta give you credit for being in the know.....

I just ran the numbers and would you know it, it's actually closer to 35%........

Gorgeous 182! Looking forward to seeing pics of it in the backcountry.

I'm hoping to get it up to Idaho next month and visit a few places.

Thank you. It was a long road finding a nice one. So much junk out there

You can say that again. I've been looking for 6 months and the few decently equipped ones I've seen are overpriced by $30k. Everything nice and priced correctly moves within a day or two.

Aubrey,
I thought I was the only one that thought these 182's were overpriced with run out engines, poor original paint & interior with basic radios... same with 172's series. The market is just crazy in asking prices with the junk aircraft continue to be advertised and the good ones go in a day by word of mouth.
I'm looking for a good plane for my snl.

Of course, to be fair, the market is what it is.

If you are not finding the 182 that suits your needs in terms of your sense of "value", its because there are a bunch of folks looking for them.... thus driving prices up.

Its a desirable plane right now. Pay up for something now or wait until a "deal" pops up. That's YOUR call, not the sellers. The market rules. How do I know this? 1960 Super Cubs can go for 120,000K. Yep, that sucks. Doesn't make sense....... but, pay up or don't.

Mike,
Of course you are absolutely correct. I've looked at several that should have been "nice aircraft" from their asking prices, however upon further review they certainly were not was what was represented. I think that is more my frustration than the "price". It is like all things in the market, real estate/ planes etc. if it's been on the market for a long time there is a reason.
I believe the Basic Med has had a positive influence on smaller aircraft market, all good hopefully.

Yes. It can be frustrating as a knowlegable buyer in a sellers market. Agreed. Best to have quick cash and a quick close.......and patience for truly worthy aircraft.

I've owned 5 planes.
In order:
An '81 Warrior II
A '66 Skylane
A '57 H35
A '59 K35
And my S35

There are a lot of days I wish I'da kept the Skylane...

Yes. I really like the skylane. If i have to choose between the 36 and the 182 for my mission, there isnt a doubt. (Might be a more difficult choice if a 35 was involved but probably not)

I'm looking for a good plane for my snl.

I've searched every corner of Barnstormers, Trade-A-Plane, Controller, and findaircraft. We've found some that would work, but nothing that meets what I want. I'm looking for one to finish my PPL/IR/CPL and build time.

Sounds like there are two issues.

1. Planes being misrepresented in ads. Nothing new there. That's why you get LOTS of photos and the log books in digital form before going to see it.

2. Planes being priced above what the buyer thinks a 182 should sell for.

On that one, I'm reminded that the market is never wrong. As Mike said, it is what it is. If 182s are selling for more than you think they should, it's time to adjust what you think they should sell for.

You can get the plane that sells for the price you want to pay, or you can get the plane that you want.

One note: Asking isn't getting. If I want to spend $50,000 for a plane (just to pick a number), I set up my search for planes listed at $70,000. Adjust the numbers for the price you want to pay.

When I was a 17 year old student pilot line boy...I got rental rates at 50% in addition to my 60 dollar a week "salary".

I checked out in the 182....Normally 26/hour, 13 dollars an hour! (1964)

After flying 150s and 172s and J-3s..... It was HUGE ! I felt like I was flying an airliner.

Who doesn't like a Skylane.....

Jeff
