I was at Boca Chica beach (very southern tip of Texas) last week where Space X is building a launch site. This is on the launch site. Other parts under construction nearby. I am looking forward to their first launch. My vacation house is about 20 miles away--should be spectacular. Does anyone know what this is? Looks like a fuel tank.

This mornings IMC takeoff, departure, RTLS approach and landing were eye watering.
I really didn't think they would GO in that fog.

Super cool.

TJ- is control of the craft automated thru the lift off process or is there a human involved in keeping it pointed up?

Its all computers and jazz, no humans involved. The optimal flight path is pre-computed. It depends on rocket mass, desired final orbit, atmospheric factors and about a hundred other things you'd never think of related to the rocket itself (aero aspects such as Max Q engine parameters etc.). The on-board autopilot follows the pre-computed path, typically with an open loop control architecture.

Definitely sounds like a job for a computer. It makes my head hurt just thinking of all the various forces in play and the margin or lack there of.

Big Falcon Heavy launch coming up NET 0330 June 25.

Some interesting drama surrounding the Core landing 770 miles downrange in a blaze of glory:
https://www.teslarati.com/spacex-surpri ... ce-record/

Challenging launch for them.
We may never see a center core fully recovered after all!
Tune in

It was CAVU last night and had a good view of the streaking rocket from the driveway last night. Watching rocket launches will never get old.
