Flying warbirds for collectors, I get to know several of the people who undertake these kinds of projects. Almost without exception they understand from the outset that it will be a money losing proposition and yet they do them anyway.

By definition they have to be successful to afford a project like restoring a Mustang or a Corsair, or a building a brand new -195, and almost without exception they are amazing people is so many other ways...

These are the same types of people that restore and maintain iconic old houses, just because it needs to be done.

I am richly blessed to be able to hang with and call several of these people my friends. Our world is a better place because they exist.

Thank you Aubie for what you are doing. Of all the airplanes I have owned, I probably miss the -195 the most....

Very well said

If you build a New aileron in the jig and just install it on the airplane the outboard tip will not align perfectly. The beauty of experience (Mr Milton's) is first recognizing this and determine how to make it perfect. The pictures show how the last portion of the riveting on the aileron tip is accomplished to produce the precise alignment.

The 195 Factory is going strong at the Fulton County Johnstown New York Airport. It is a modern day cottage industry. Owned and operated by Bill Milton, it produces 600 PMA parts that makes the Cessna 195 a supportable Classic. With this company the 195 is more supportable than 120,140,170,180,and 185 :tape:. If you don't believe it call textron for a part for one of these!

Is that because the 190/195 shared such few parts with other Cessna designs and Cessna didn't really care about competition/liability?

Also, is there any treatment on the inside of the fuselage/wings? Looks like just alodine? Looks great...can't wait to see the final product! I enjoyed watching my friend Miles Bowen's 170 rebuilt by Del Lehmann after a Cherokee tried to mortally wound it. Old Cessnas are special airplanes. I hope to be a 195 owner someday.

In the 1960's an ole round engine tail draggers were not in vogue. Cessna was interested in selling 210s 310s etc. Supporting an out of production old airplane was not a priority. The data for the parts was public domain (then) so it was possible to get a PMA to produce the parts. This business has changed hands a couple of times as the owners age etc and is now with its third owner, Bill Milton.

Multiple projects lead to multiple successes. I was forced into a major airplane upgrade project my airplane at work. This caused huge problems with finding time to work on my airplane. The jet is finished and in service so now maybe I can progress on a REAL airplane!

This is a labor of love and I’ll bet it’s a whole family affair too! Enjoy watching everything about an round engine tail dragger being brought back to life! Sooner the better so we can see whose is fastest! :)

The site of Aubie's 195 is Wayne Robert's hangar which is just down the ramp from mine. Wayne retired from the construction business a few years back and started doing competition aerobatics and tinkering with airplanes. He has now sold his Extra and is "tinkering" full time. He has also gotten his A&P license. His is currently "redoing" the wiring on another friend's 195 that is also in that hangar.

Ironically, both Aubie and Wayne had unavoidable incidences with their 195's in close succession. Aubie's engine quit on take off and Wayne's gear broke. Both airplanes were "totaled" but still fully restorable and both are being restored.

When finished there will be two 195's back to flying status in "like new" condition. Wayne will be working on both, first on Aubie's and then on his own. I get to watch the process from an easy chair while drinking coffee: nice seat.

I have already said that I am actually jealous. Both these guys, as a result of bad fortune, will have a new 195, perhaps better than new.

John Grady
