A certified evolution will be a big headache for the likes of Tbm, meridian, the new setp Cessna turboprop, and the likes. I bet some Chinese company will take the bite and make lots of money. Hard to beat 1400 NM range 28 gal/hr PT 6 power longt TBO 4 people 28000feet pressurized it even beats the smurfy little single engine jets everybody is in love with.

Heh heh, "smurfy"...

The planes you mention have 6 seats, no?[/quote]

had lunch at KLNC with my 30 buck hamburger plane rv8 and a big kingair with raisbeck mods and wingtips and big props and 12 seats or so came in landed doors open and 4 people came out to have 400 $ burgers
its all a matter of perception, the friends i have that fly pc-12, meridians, jet props
usually have 2 or 3
95% of my evolution flights are single pilot and most are business trips to medical meetings or conventions.
the 4 vs 6 seats arguments are in my mind invalid

I know I'd love to have 6 seats. I'd have gone with a TBM if they were so dang expensive to maintain. I love my Evo though. Just wish it had 2 more seats.

I assume Kevin Eldridge (sp?). Don't know him, became aware when he built a Nemesis NXT called Relentless and raced it in Reno. I believe he had some C-level role at lancair/evolution or whatever the company was called.

Kevin Eldridge was president of Evolution Aircraft Co. until this week.

Andes, great story, but has nothing to do with my point- someone made the assertion that if the Evolution was certified it would be a threat to the TBM, Mirage, etc- no, it would not be, the Evolution is a luxury 4 seater that is impractical for most at that price point, you can't charter it out, lease back, etc- add the chute and it's a 3 seater, so, the TBM, mirage, and others with 6 seats and a turbine, are more useful and more practical (and more expensive in most cases) machines

apples/oranges, much like your odd comparison of your evo to a king air-

i'm a huge fan of the evo, but it seems nobody can stay on topic when discussing it or comparing to other market options- let's leave Dave's thread alone and let him get back to posting his airplane porn, I enjoy that content far more than the Evo industry news content

Keep sanding those flight surfaces Dave!

I just realized Dave is one of the guys who pulled his deposit and quit his build

Dave, what's next for you? Any idea of what your remaining kit value is or what they're asking for it?

How does that work when you are so close to the finish line? His current capital investment in the build has to eclipse the deposit by a good amount.

I’ve followed Gerry’s and Dave’s build as well as the Lancair turmoil of late. Hope things get straightened out up there.

Huh? Where'd you get that? Nope, I'm not. All I know is that one guy is from Houston and hurricane Harvey rearranged his priorities. But that's not my situation. I'm continuing to plug along. This week we'll be prepping the wing for the de-icing system, laying fiberglass insulation under where the electrical heating elements will go. And going through more iterations on the paint scheme.

Better if I'd phrased it, "Glad I jumped in when I did." I'd hate to have missed my chance to do this. I'm enjoying the process far more than I expected and the final product is shaping up to be amazing.

It's been a while since I posted anything and shop time hasn't been very photogenic (carbon layups all look pretty much the same) so, New topic: Help me with the paint scheme. This is our leading contender. Colors are silver-gray (although it looks white here), charcoal-gray and blue. Want to keep the top cowl over the engine all silver so the stainless cowl fasteners don't leap out at you, dark leading edges to see ice and charcoal at the wing root to hide the wing/body join. It's OK as far as it goes but we want to jazz it up some.

Comments welcome!

Clear coat the plane. It looks AWESOME in the buff. (zero green font)

I'd love that! But it's not an option. I talked to the painter of this gorgeous plane, a Lindy winner. I doubt you can zoom in enough to see it but the N numbers are clear-coated carbon. They cost $1K per letter, $12K of a >$60K paint job. Doing a lot of the plane would be crazy expensive.

The painter says the epoxy in the carbon needs to be protected from UV. A clear coat that blocks UV yellows over time and is really hard to remove without damaging the carbon. So to get that look, they lay down a non-structural layer of carbon and use a non-UV blocking (so non-yellowing) clear coat over that.
