Damn, that's hard to beat.

Without any material speed difference at 280, RVSM altitudes will be nice.

and 7 knots is no joke.

Yep. Just eyeballing the rate of climb plot it looks like about 700 fpm at FL 300. Should make it very usable.

It is tempting, but I'm keeping eyes on the prize. This mod is easily done later, we'll look at it after we fly.

How much diff can you put on the cabin? What’s the ceiling for a 10,000’ cabin alt?

With 700fpm left at 300 I’d be tempted to find the absolute ceiling.

Truth be told, I eyeballed FL 300 just because it was easy, it's the edge of the graph. But it's a good place to start, get the RVSM approval, then tiptoe our way up from there. The cabin diff is nominally 6.5 psi, which gives a 10K cabin at about FL 350, if memory serves. But we haven't even inflated it yet, who knows how close to that 6.5 we will actually get. Then there are instrumentation limits, at some height we'll run out of bleed air, and no doubt other hurdles we haven't thought of yet. This is boldly going where no Evo has gone before. Baby steps are appropriate.

It's just too cool you can homebuild a turboprop in your "garage" that cruises around 300 knots in the FLs. Love the pics and good luck... keep making progress!

We wanted to mount a camera to check the operation of the new inner gear doors, so since we're adding the wires to the wiring harness, might as well make it useful after the testing phase is over. Each G3X display unit accepts (analog) video input and displays it either on a full MFD page or in a window on the PFD.

We mounted two cameras on the nose gear, facing front and rear. They're color, low-light drone cameras. The back camera looks at the main gear with the standard wide-angle lens, the front camera lens we will eventually replace with a longer lens, better for picking out the runway at night.

Good idea. There are a lot of things that can hang up on Lancair gear doors.

Still lots of frustrating delays from restrictions on suppliers in different states and countries, and their suppliers in even more states and countries, but we are making some progress on the interior. It's slow, meticulous work, not my favorite.

if you go into menu, you can set the zoom to full screen for that and get a larger picture

I know you guys don't care about the details, just milestones, so here's a big one.

Airworthiness.jpg
No longer just an elaborate yard decoration, it's now officially an airplane! I'm holding the still-warm Airworthiness Certificate. Now it's 90% done, with just 90% left to do, as the saying goes.

Panel first light.jpg
Another big moment a few weeks ago was when we fired up the complete avionics for the first time in the plane, rather than on the bench.

For the airworthiness inspection we did the first weighing of the complete airplane, as it will go into Phase 1 testing. (Another weighing afterward will pick up whatever bug fixes we make in testing.) Controlling empty weight and CG has been a constant concern from the beginning of the project and I'm relieved and pleased with how it turned out. It's not quite the lightest Evo out there but it's close, and the lighter ones don't have the extra weight of de-ice, gear doors, aux tank, etc. More important, the empty CG makes the useful load very usable without stuffing luggage in odd places.

Awesome! Congratulations that's quite an achievement. I thought am RV was challenging enough but following this thread makes me appreciate the craftsmanship that others possess. Wish you a smooth phase 1!
