Pic, so it happened. Just a still from video, I didn't think to take any photos, sorry. Pity I can't figure out how to post a video here

The test pilot comes next week to do his own inspection, then I'll have a whole new set of issues to debug.

First pass through the data dump from the start (hello, 21st century!) all parameters look perfect.

You can tell from the poor video quality this ain't the Raptor project. In oh so many ways...

Congrats, Dave!

I am curious though - in looking at your photos - are you going go with a single GPS/NAV/COM unit (the 750)?

Regards, Jim

Test pilot? That's like courting a woman for years and then letting a "professional" check her out on your wedding night. Sorry, but I flew my Lancair myself on it's first flight.

Second COM is remote, two more GPS in the G3Xs, just the 750 for NAV or RNAV approaches. If it fails I'm landing VFR, I wouldn't do low IFR on backups anyway.

My ego isn't on the line here. Sexual analogies are emotive but treating a control stick as a phallic symbol has gotten a lot of pilots killed over the years. The NTSB found that 20% of all homebuilt accidents occurred on the first or second flight, the majority due to pilot error. I find that data compelling, as does my insurance company. We agreed that a Test Pilot School graduate, aerobatics competitor and Reno race pilot who's been instructing in Evolutions for years and done over a dozen first flights was much better qualified for this job than I am.

As I said before, this ain't the Raptor project.

No guts required, just some luck. Before making my first solo flight I got several hours in the left seat of a similar plane with a former Marine test pilot in the right seat. Prior to that, I got six hours in the right seat of an identical aircraft - even some actual IFR. Also, I did a number of fast taxi tests, so I felt pretty confident that I wouldn't die on the first couple of flights.
