That’s like asking someone how much their plane costs to run an hour. We don’t do that here.

Beautiful! Quite an accomplishment.

Looks pretty complete to me, I bet you only have 50% to go.

Will do.

It's about time for an update anyway. We're in the throes of debugging, mostly of the new landing gear system. Gear swings worked fine when done slowly, but when we ramped up the speed problems developed. Recall that the old design had a large accumulator under the baggage floor, where it made a mess if/when it failed. Our redesign into separate up and down circuits took that away, and we hoped to do without any accumulators, but it didn't work out. Two small ones took its place, one for each of the hydraulic lines, and together weighing about as much as the old big one They are steel and COTS parts, vs. the old aluminum custom one, so should be much more dependable, and mounted in the engine bay for easier servicing and less mess.

The inner gear doors weren't as stiff as we wanted, so we upsized the hinge and moved the actuator for a better angle. We had planned to sequence the inner gear doors with valves, as has been done elsewhere, but couldn't get it reliable. So we put in potentiometers to sense the door position and switched to sequencing it in software. But calibrating the analog potentiometers we installed was a challenge, as it turned out their output varied with temperature. We started down the road of varying calibrations with OAT, but the right answer was to start over with digital potentiometers. That freed up analog ports on the control boxes but required some juggling to get enough digital ports.

Speaking of the control boxes, we found out the hard way that they aren't as well sealed against liquids as advertised, which is unfortunate as they are mounted under the floor in the low point of the fuselage. We built boxes around them to keep them dry.

One thing that made the GFC700 an outstanding autopilot for the Evolution was that it had an input for flap position to smoothly compensate for the trim change. The G3X autopilot lacks that input and flap deployment causes a faster trim change than the G3X A/P can cope with. Our solution software-controls the speed of the flap extension to match the trim capability of the A/P, slow at first, when most of the trim change happens, then faster in the last part of extension, which mostly adds drag. It works great on the bench, we'll have to see how it does in the air. Soon, I hope.

Dave-

are those actuators going tp power each LG separately, like is done on the TBM?

Those in the picture are accumulators, one for the up line, one for the down. There are five actuators, one for each wheel and one for each inner gear door.

The switches on the stick are a lot more crowded than they would be on a yoke. I need to study them before we fly so I don't drop napalm when I meant to hit the high beams.

I also have to practice hitting the "voice command" button and talking to the avionics.

Supposedly it understands a 2,000 word vocabulary. Of course I checked the list for "Open the pod bay door". Sorry, it can't do that.

The biggest challenge is that I must think in Russian.

Is the trim switch tagged correctly? Mine was push for down pull for up. Yours looks like push for up pull for down. Or am I looking at it upside down?

Yeah, it confused me as well at first, but it does make some sense. Where it says "nose down", a tap would push the hat switch forward, so nose down, and the same for the other three directions. Really, the trim axes all work as you'd expect, it's only the labels that aren't intuitive.

And I should have mentioned, you've done a phenomenal job. It really looks great.
