The parting strip is always on but the shed zones cycle and are on in L/R pairs and no, I don't know the power consumption of the parting vs. shed zones. I don't think there's a mode where all the shed zones would be on at the same time. For your reading pleasure, this paper estimates the power required for the similar system on the 787 https://www.fzt.haw-hamburg.de/pers/Sch ... -08-31.pdfand it implies our 14kW should be ample. A previous iteration of the system on another Evo put out about 5 kW and was found to work great but only down to -9C so we went big. The goal is to get protection down to -40C, since NASA says below that the air is too dry to be a problem. And we also have TCs on the alternator.

Sounds very interesting. Do you plan to do inflight testing behind a water source? A video of the system in action would be really cool.
Clearly there will be ice contamination on the parts of the leading edges at times during an ice encounter, and laminar flow airfoils are awfully sensitive to this. What are the expected performance issues WRT airspeed loss, climb rate, and stall speed when the system is keeping up with the ice?

What are the chances of getting run back from the protected areas. I’d guess you’d want it to pula so that instead of melting everything and then some of it running back you’d get a build up and then melt the area against the wing this allowing the rest to blow off in the slip stream.
Hopefully someday I’ll be able to replace my boots with something similar.

Hopefully someday I’ll be able to replace my boots with something similar. The concept if based on keeping a small line along the leading edge as well as a few chordwise areas (the "parting strips") continuously hot enough to melt any ice there and periodically (once every 2-3 minutes) heat sections of the rest of the leading edge. That way the runback from the narrow continuously hot portion refreezes on the buildup behind the parting strips (the shed zones) and then the remaining ice flies off while still frozen.

Which plane is it? Was at the booth today … great looking planes. If you have details on the JMB/Evolution deal that would be interesting to know. Are they going to re-start shipping kits? Insurance update? Seeing the Evo’s there reminds me of how great-looking those planes are!

I did see it, and it is stunning! As I walked around and put the builder's eyeball on it, every detail is just right.
It was years of your life, and now you get years worth of use of it, and always knowing you built it.
Congratulations!

Congrats!! She’s a beauty; I spent a fair amount of time looking at it yesterday. Great job in the build!
