Back from the paint shop and coming together! Attachment: IMG_20190710_162921332.jpg Attachment: IMG_20190710_171540230.jpg Attachment: IMG_20190710_103327529.jpg It's footprint is not much different from our A36 but because it stands taller it seems like a much bigger airplane!

As mentioned a couple of pages back, changing the wing incidence meant we had to cut off and redo the filets. This is the finished result. Cleaned up nice! Attachment: IMG_20190709_153217840_small.jpg

Another plane in the shop. Looks like the owner is going for that late-WWII Messerschmitt look, doesn't it? Coincidentally, the owner is German/American(!) Actually, there was enough to do on this plane the owner opted to start over, stripping the paint and grinding off the filler (white) down to but not into the carbon (black). He's adding a parachute as well, the big white swoosh is where the straps are glassed in from the engine mount back to where the parachute hides, top of the fuselage behind the cabin. Beautiful
A few years ago I was looking at a 185 in a FBO hanger in Portsmouth NH where I saw what looked like what you are building. Do you know the builder and the plane's status now by any chance?

Username Protected wrote: I always wondered what the flight test program would be on such a high performance owner built aircraft....What are the plans? Good question, I'll have to ask the guy who'll be doing it! An outfit in OR specializes in first flights/test programs/instruction for Lancairs and Evolutions, one of their pilots will be doing the test flying. Between them they've flown nearly every Evo in the fleet, he'll be much better able to spot any anomalies than I would be. Some of their flight time was supposedly included in the price of the kit but they've been stiffed by EAC same as everyone else so I'll be paying for all of it. The initial Phase 1 flight test program has long been limited to "minimum flight crew", which in the Evo means one. A few years ago the FAA implemented the Additional Pilot Program allowing a second pilot along, but it doesn't apply to turbines. The insurance company won't cover me solo until I have 25 hours of dual, and since I can't train in my own plane until after it's completed the (at least) 40 hour Phase 1 (and no Evos can be rented), it'll have at least 65 hours on it before I fly it solo.

How did you manage that?

Wouldn't it be great if the FAA extended that to turbine owner/builder/pilot to fly with the test pilot? Then again, getting it past the insurance company for less than an appendage or first born child, is difficult at best.
