On one hand the nose gear is the only one in the propeller slipstream and it carries much less weight than the mains (so less structure and less weight to make it retract). On the other hand, it's the only one that steers, so that's extra mechanical complexity- and $$
It's free castoring- no complexity

From the Lancair MAKO FAQ page: "Retractable nose gear is offered as an option, to improve performance. We expect another 7 to 8 knots of cruise speed with the nose gear tucked away. We are also working on this operation being automatic, based on speed and GPS altitude." Still looks goofy to me. Would like to see what the cost and added build complexity is and whether it's worth 7 knots.

Let's say it cost $500K; there's nothing that would touch it. It would do 230-240kts and be very safe and docile. You'd still have $150-200k left over for gas and insurance
I am assuming you're giving only a 20kt penalty to the larger wings/tail, and subtracting the rest from the gear raising- which it won't, the plane you describe is very do-able with the one exception
adding a pic of my ES it took yesterday afternoon to liven up this discussion

Geez, yeah I get it, it's just my opinion and has no bearing on the anything--it's just a purely subjective observation and not meant to be qualitative in any fashion. Feel free to disagree all you want. I still think it looks goofy.
Aesthetics aside, still don't know if the juice is worth the squeeze for the modest speed gain.
